Flappy Bird Is A Near Carbon Copy Of A Game Called Piou Piou

iGR: "Word from Flappy Bird‘s developer maintains that keeping up with the game’s popularity is ruining his simple life. Therefore he’s removing it from digital distribution tomorrow. But the truth is, he may be in legal trouble."

Does nobody realize that games like this have been around for like 10 years? Those crappy flash games you find, it's usually a helicopter you fly through a tunnel and keep from crashing into the roof or floor.

Honestly, I have no idea why there have been so many articles on this thing.

pixlz3765d ago

I wonder if people were sleeping through all those various Zynga lawsuits that happened in the past couple years. Cloned games are legal. Especially ones released for free.

Anti-social geek makes game, accidentally gets a little fame. Social world attacks. To get rid of newfound anxiety, shut down the game.

Any anti-social geek knows how cruel the gaming world can be and is. Especially if they read comment sections at N4G. Heheh.

Soldierone3764d ago

Was about to say the same thing. Played the helicopter game on Newgrounds back when it was cool lol

Rivitur3764d ago

Helicopter game was a hood classic back in the day if you were on the computer you were either playing that or pool.

DragonKnight3764d ago

Of course they don't realize it. People thought Angry Birds was something new when it came out and was the latest mobile craze. These casuals are completely clueless.

Oh_Yeah3765d ago

It's an exact copy just a slight art change, that's probably why the dev wants to pull the game, feeling a little guilty for all the fame he's received off a knock off.

IAmLee3764d ago

I'd feel guilty creating a game called 'Flappy Birds' anyway, even it wasn't a rip off. :')

Crazyglues3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

Is it really hard to believe this guy copied everything, Flappy bird copied all of it's graphics from Mario.. the pipes, the so called bird..

The guy who made this didn't do a dam thing but copy and paste, from other games... LoL

There has to be something fishy about why out of the blue he wants to pull out the game. I mean its becoming a popular one so why would someone walk away from so much money?

CrossingEden3765d ago

Maybe because he cares more about his reputation and social life than money.

-Foxtrot3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

I think with money you could have more of a social life though

Look at Notch, he said after the success of Minecraft and making a crap load of money he ended up meeting this guy at a party he was at only to end up on the guys private plane, flying all away to London, traveling to his pent house by limo to continue the party there where they partied all night.

All that in one night...now I don't know about you but that sounds awesome but if he didn't have the money Minecraft brought in for him that would of never happened.

SilentNegotiator3765d ago

@Foxtrot

Having more money doesn't mean you will have a more fulfilling social life.

DeadIIIRed3765d ago

So we should all quit our day jobs because we like to hang with friends and make good impressions?

SilentNegotiator3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

@DeadIIIRed

He created (er, well, copied and well marketed) an insanely popular game. He's probably already rich and doesn't need to make anymore money from it.

That's a little different from a day job.

-Foxtrot3765d ago

@ SilentNegotiator

Yeah but it bloody helps

sAVAge_bEaST3765d ago

Why all the disagrees>?

"Love of money is the root of all evil."

"Mo' money, Mo' Problems"

(evil flappy bird was trying to steal souls, he had to pull the plug)

No one said he would discontinue the game advertising in the copies already installed. He will still make money off those ads, this is one of two things.

1) He is trying to push more downloads which equals more ad views

or

2) There is legal action from someone and he is being silent on the matter. Most people inciting the legal action don't talk about it. Information on legal threats usually comes from the party being threatened as they seek some sympathy.

PudgeySan3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

Mostly because people re-spawn threads like this over and over and over trying to find every single thing to ridicule the game about and once the points made they will accuse him of said point. This guy probably put a lot of work into creating something he enjoyed and then after a year it becomes a hit and gets blasted by dick heads. There is a lot of good to it but when you have O'ps like this writing " The game plays similar to (Insert side scroll-er here)," Basically saying it's a rip off... No one accuses Call Of Duty to being similar to BF4 or if you take it all the back MOH or Doom or Quake and they play very similar as well. It's just out right bitter bullshit and it's bad for you. If you don't like the "Free" side scroll-er, Don't play it. Go on with your day, player something else.. Make love to your girlfriend.. Switch to Geico..

fenome3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

Its flappy bird and green tubes are also carbon copies of the ones in Super Mario Bros, but does it matter? Do they actually affect each other in any way? I really hope there's not some legal BS behind this because none of them actually affect the other ones in any way. It's just like Candy Crush and the Banner Saga, they don't even affect each other in any way, so there should be no ramifications. Things are getting too loose with restrictions, rules and regulations now. I understand we need to have them, but there needs to be a line 'cause this is absurd.

I'm not saying that that's why he pulled this game, I don't know why that happened. I'm just sayin' to expect more games gettin pulled if people start gettin' away with trivial lawsuits, "Your clouds look similar to my clouds, you need to yank your game or I'm taking you to court" kinda stuff..

LightningMokey3765d ago

Actually it sorta does, if no onw had told me, id have though the Banner Saga was made by King... Its called riding popularity and can cause people to buy the copy instead of legit product. Not that I think mobioe or flash games are legit products.

fenome3765d ago

I get what your saying, but how many games already have Saga in the title? Trust me a lot of them predate Candy Crush by a long shot. Plus they aren't even competing in the same marketplaces, Candy Crush is on Facebook and app stores and The Banner Saga is on steam, they have nothing in common.

Lukejrl3765d ago

Yea but people should read. Like the clown who bought the picture of Xbox one. He even admitted it said picture. But his reading comprehension was the equivalent of a 6 year old. If you just look at a title and don't think who wrote this, that is not the authors fault.

-Foxtrot3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

Couldn't someone basically do the same thing to Flappy Bird after he removes it from the store and bring in a bit of money for themselves based on his success.

Like you could call it Mr Flappy involving a fat man with a moustache and monocle who has home made wings strapped to his arms and you try to avoid the obstacles in his path. Same concept, different skin.

I mean I know you would be "copying" his idea but even then if your getting half of what he's making a day you'd still be rolling in it.

Anonagrog3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

When looking at this I can't help being reminded of all those school breaks I sunk into 'Helicopter Game'. Must be nearly a decade since I last loaded this thing up. Memories!

-Foxtrot3765d ago

School Breaks?

More like in most lessons...ICT being one

Z_-_D_-_33765d ago

Wow, just fired that up and I had infinitely more fun with this game than shitty Flappy Bird.

Meet the victims of digital distribution – games you can't buy anymore

When a game released exclusively digitally disappears from distribution, it becomes impossible to play it legally. Actually, quite a few gems have disappeared in this manner, with the legendary P.T. being just the beginning of the story.

I heard FlappyBird will be only available for the iOS user on the iPhoneX

Fullmetalevolust2443d ago

well, that's just criminal, hehe.

Zjet2443d ago

Its a 32bit app. iOS 11 is only compatible with 64bit apps.

App developers have been informed for the last 2 years that they need to update their apps to avoid this problem.

Customeers have been made aware with every new firmware update but no one reads patch notes.
