The Nintendo NX is supposed to launch in March 2017, but is the system still on schedule? RGT 85 feels the Nintendo NX will be delayed until later in 2017, and has a few reasons why. Do you think the Nintendo NX will be delayed?

The likeliness is those rumors and leaks are true, many of those sources have leaked other platforms, or did you think PS4 "Neo" or Pro was just a guess?

It was. Nintendo's president said the NX was pushed back from 2016 to 2017 in order to prepare more games for it. Zelda was ported to the NX so Nintendo pushed the Wii U version back to coincide with the NX release.

With each month that passes with no official word unveiling it becomes more unbelievable that they're sticking to a March release. Yeah DS, Xbox 360 & Xbox One were unveiled 6 months before they released, but at least they were unveiled before E3 so they could get the biggest coverage imaginable.

Having a Nintendo Direct isn't going to cut it. Nintendo needs to unveil this thing now so it can get more coverage at whatever subsequent conference is left this year.

If it is a hybrid, don't expect it to be more powerful than a PS4... It would probably be around the same power level as the Wii U. Which, yeah, would be very underpowered for a home console, but very powerful for a handheld.

It could still have a lot of games, if this means Nintendo will make all of their games for it instead of dividing them between a handheld and a home console like in the past. Add to that all the third party support that Ninteendo handhelds always got, and the NX could be a serious beast to contend against in terms of games, despite it being underpowered.

I suspect that is Nintendo's approach with NX.

I dont mind a hybrid as long as its more powerfull than the ps4 otherwise we wont get any 3rd party again, dont get me wrong, im a ninty fan, i had all their cosoles but wii u to me was a disappoiment due to no games! I want nintendo to come up with the goods!!

The exact same thing can be said about the Wii U. E3 and Gamescom 2012 came and went and still no price or release date. It wasn't until Sep, only 2 months before launch, they did an information blowout.

I don't see the big deal either, the Wii U did just fin............oh crap. Wait, on top of repeating history with the Wii U so far, they wouldn't actually be so uninformed and KEEP the stupid codename of the console like they did with the Wii U too.

You just can't compare the handling of information between the Wii U and NX yet, because the NX hasn't been officially revealed in any way, shape or form. You have nothing to compare against.

if they do reveal before mid Oct i still think they will delay the launch at least a a few weeks but not nearly as long as if they reveal after Christmas

I've been a Nintendo owner since 1987 and I hate to say this but that thing is going to be delayed. This is what they do. This is what they always do.

DelayS... still, Ocarina of Time was worth the wait, plus they managed to release Majora's Mask just 2 years later - a miracle by Zelda standards.

As far as I know, Nintendo have never delayed a console... That said, the NX basically has to launch with 'Breath of the Wild' (as well as the usual Mario/Pokemon stuff), so I can see them pushing the console back just for that title - which, like most other Zelda games, has probably been delayed (again).

Tablet with similar power to xbox one/ps4, additional tv box with extra compute powers for up to 4k visuals. Both can work independently but the tv box alone will not have the power for 4k, nor will the tablet. So for a 4k nx you need both as Nintendo have found a way to combine the power.

Hopefully the WiiU was a hard lesson learned that they can't replicate the success of the original Wii.

Here's something for you to consider...
Scenario: the NX comes out, and it's a carbon copy of the competition.
Nothing special, just a plain old power-based console.
The controller's as plain as dirt, the whole console doesn't have any special look outside of different colors, the specs match the current most powerful option, and all the same games are on it.

Now find yourself a mirror, look yourself straight in the eye, and ask yourself this honestly:

If the NX does nothing different, let alone better, than the competition, do you honestly believe that gamers on those other platforms are going to put down another $350 for it, when their current systems already have all the same looks, features, and multiplats?

Like it or not, a plain console has a worse chance at selling than the Wii U did, in Nintendo's current position.
The market won't be interested in a third console that's just a carbon copy of the other two.

It NEEDS some sort of hook, one that will catch interest better than the Wii U did.
Foregoing the search for that hook is tantamount to giving up on finding a way to make their home consoles sell high once more.
At this point, for Nintendo, it's a necessary risk.

Who bought the Wii and DS?

101 million got the Wii.....13 got Wii U.
160 million got DS.....60 got 3DS

Sooo who are those that are not returning? "none-Nintendo gamers"? as you need to consider those you see as "none-Nintendo gamers" are actually past fans The reality is, they either lost those fans, or never had them. To state "none-Nintendo gamers" won't buy a Nintendo console is to agree with what we've been saying for years bud.

This company might need to merely focus on handheld as they lost those gamers years ago on console, if they can't make it happen on handheld (considering they are 100 million LESS with 3DS), they might need to considering going 3rd party.

Nah March can't see its being delayed just some companies like a suprise and don't need to air their life on social media, Not saying it won't need no publicity but you don't need a year long hype train every time a product comes out, look at Apple announced last week on sale this week. Nintendo Direct either this month or Next (Oct) then 6 months of revealing more nuggets showing off the games. It'll get shown off proper or at least get more info before Ps4 Pro's go on the shelves, that my thought anyway.

After watching the video, I don't think he is wrong, but I think his reasons are not 100% valid.

He states something about Mario Run and Miyamoto.....

First off, this man hasn't done jack in years, I don't believe even in the slightest that he is this HUGE key to the NX's games, even slightly. That sounds like something someone would say that didn't actually play much Nintendo titles or didn't research enough game development to know.

The man you need to be looking out for is Takashi Tezuka, this man is one of the key reasons Nintendo's games are even as great as they are. Even directors like Aonuma or Fujibayashi. Look them up please. To suggest a delay based on such a thing is comical and left me feeling that maybe this guy didn't know completely what he was talking about.

He does have some good points.

Months. The longer NX is not announced, the shorter they have to market.....I don't think they will just do that, I think they will delay before they will give themselves less time, 6 months is fine, but anything less is really pushing it. The holiday line up is beast on console right now and Nintendo can't really afford to be overshadowed this fall as by spring, they are going to be missing out on a HUGE chunk of that install base.

Which brings me to my next point oddly enough....what if its not even a console? If its not, then then announcing in fall won't really hurt them THAT much. It would mean that PS4 and XONE are not something they are worrying about.

If the rumors are true about it being a handheld, I don't think its release date or announcement will mater as much as folks are making it out to be.

If it is a console......they might be dead before arrival.

re Myamoto not being a cause of delay and questioning the video presenters knowledge- i think you are wrong - He does know what he is talking about- and although Myamoto does not seem to be the active talent he once was, he is still "the boss" when it comes to Nintendo software and Nintendo is very much a top down corp structure to the extreme- which means all meaningful software dev decisions go up the ladder and go thru Miyamoto- The more involved he is in mobile the slower decision will get made on the console side software-
You may want to "know what you don t know" before scoffing at someone else's knowledgeable opinion

That is extremely doubtful buddy it sounds like you have either some wishful thinking or you seriously have this bizarre naive delusion that this guy is still in charge of anything major at Nintendo.

Like I said they are other notable directors at Nintendo that we know are actually working on NX Games Miyamoto not working on something on NX is actually extremely irrelevant considering this man hasn't directed many games in a while and in fact the greatest games in Nintendo history were not even directed by this man...

IMO the question is not if it will be delayed buy by how long- I don t see any reason they would release in March unless it is at midnight March 31 - Why waste the boost in revenue in a fiscal year that is virtually guaranteed to suck for Nintendo when they can push it till April 1 or later and get all the launch sales in a new fiscal year where they have a chance at annual raising revenue for the 1st time in 8+/- years and even making a profit???

Other than earnings reasons, if they don t reveal the NX by mid October+/- i don t see how they can properly market it in time for a March/April release considering mas marketing the holiday shopping season will be getting cranked up and won t work well for a product that will not be available for Christmas

I disagree.. I think nintendo will show it off soon and be on schedule with the NX.. Sure they're missing the holiday but by NX holiday it will have the notoriety people are expecting.. They decided they will not compete with 2 different companies anymore and will do their own thing from now on.. Im fine with that too.. Didnt the 3DS launch in the same manner? The NX will likely be the most powerful handheld that can connect to the TV but we wont know until they reveal it.. That being said, the price must be amazing if they plan on a spring launch date.. Only time will tell but i dont see them delaying it and if they do, it wont be a long stretch..
