Nintendo have a history of making their console games be more expensive than the competition. The proprietary cartridge format and different hardware configuration doesn't help.

When you can buy games on PS4 for around £15-20 brand new, and yet a 4 year old re-release like MK8 costs £40, you know something's wrong.

@CBaoth - yes but it's not like it's only releasing on Switch as a desperate attempt. They are releasing it across the board. And just because it's been released previously on other consoles doesn't mean it's a knock against Nintendo. Rockstar hasn't supported Nintendo in a long time. So it's nice to see they are at least testing the waters a little. Maybe Switch owners will see a GTA V port in the near future then.. who knows.

I own a Switch, but why do I happy to pay more for a game that cost less on other platforms? If you meant to say that Switch owners are happy that this game come out on Switch, then I agree. It shows a sign that third party devs are starting to get interested in the Switch, which only means good things from now on.

I personally had never completed LA Noire, so I will gladly double dip on either my PS4 or the Switch. Higher graphic fidelity or portable. Decision decision decision.

Switch has the potential to sell fewer copies even if priced the same due to install base. The cost of the media is also more expensive due to not using optical media, and the fact they won't get the same economies of scale since they won't produce the same number of copies.

The higher cost is likely what it is because of these two factors. Demand and production costs.

The publisher has to be able to recoup the cost to port to the Switch, and to do that, they deem they have to sell it for more.

Sometimes the perception that it's done out of spite or trying to take advantage of something is wrong, and the real world costs have to be accounted for, and if it costs more, they can make more money selling fewer copies.

On the bright side though, the Switch version is likely to retain it's value for a long time compared to the more ubiquitous PS4 or X1 versions.

Portability makes it the superior version for some. You should understand that your viewpoint isn't the only viewpoint out there. Some people have different priorities.

Don't listen to the trolls. It's a niche game for sure, and I totally understand why people won't like it. But if you like playing detective, interacting with people, reading their emotions and solving mysteries, it's a fantastic game. I've bought on 360, PC and I plan on buying it for my Switch. PS4 would be pointless for me since I own the PC version, but at least Switch is portable and has some nice extra little Switch features.

People hating on the Switch that don't own one, are really missing out on good fun in general. Especially if you have friends (in real life) that also own a Switch. Makes for some good get togethers for some silly fun.

Maybe Switch has mass market appeal. but the core gaming market (like the guys and gals here on n4g, people who read gaming websites, follow the news, watch game trailers on YouTube etc ) wanted the next true home console from Nintendo. Not a portable hybrid. Of course it's not 100% and everyone. I mean you're a core gamer here on the n4g community and you like the switch. But you're definitely in the minority'here.

Also core gamers are not looking to have silly fun like playing twister in the after school program like kids. They want deep gaming experiences that are both fun and engrossing. Like horizon zero dawn and the witcher for example.

nothing is exclusive to Vive. Unless it actually has a DRM hardware check built in (which can be cracked anyways). If it releases on Steam it'll work with the Rift. Unless you are bringing that up because of no PSVR support.

I normally back Rockstar without question but the improvements will have to be game changing to buy this especially since I already own it on PS3 , 360 and PC

A. Nintendo put a laughable at best 32 gb of storage in the switch knowing damn well consumers would have to purchase extra memory after their 300$ purchase.

B. Nintendo went with cartridges because they didnt want to make another failed home console, and now thats biting them in the ass because carts cost more than discs to manufacture... When the same game on another console costs less.

Micro SD not expensive, you can keep bringing it up but you forget how much consumers use to pay for memory cards back in the days, we have it much easier now, i would gladly pay 25 to 44 dollars for 128 gb when we had to buy memory for Xbox 360, or 32gb for vita.......we have choice if people do not want to get a big memory card like i have they can get a 64gb card which goes for 15 to 23 dollars, that covers this game and other big game release for switch

The console itself has the odasity to be 299 priced as much as a ps4, yet they give you 32 GB... THIRTY TWO GB of storage where the competition gives 1 terabyte. Hmm

Forget the fact the switch should come with at least bare minimum 500 gb of storage, now you have to spend more $$ on top of all this other crap for a memory card too! You bring up the fact we used to have to buy memory cards... Dude that was 2-3 generations ago... The og xbox did it first with ps2 trying to at the end of the 6th gen but by 7th gen (11 damn years ago) memory cards were a thing of the past with the ps3 giving 20-60 gb iterations initially. Yet... Here we are 11 years later we have nintendo giving 32 gb... If you cant admit thats a total ripoff, facepalm, ect... you sir are nintendos target audience!

The reason they charge what they do is because people will spend that much.

There is no real rhyme or reason as to why it might be more or less. If it'll sell at a certain price, it'll be sold for that price.

Anyhow, the MSRP for the DS4 is $49.99-59.99, not $39. Sony is probably selling 10X the number of controllers as Nintendo, so Nintendo is just trying to recoup the cost of having the controller in the first place by profitting more while selling less....which is why most things cost more in the first place.

As far as the tech though, I do think they could have made it cheaper with what they have in it, but again, there are apparently plenty of people willing to pay that price. The decision on carts was likely for battery life and simplicity, and while it does cost more to make the games, it really only means that games don't get as large of a production run, and profit is taken away from the publisher since there is a limit on how high the cost of a game can go before people won't buy it.

Switch Pro controller have 40 hours of battery life, something my ps4 controller do not have, it have hd rumble, nfc reader, and etc so of course it will cost more, because it do more, if sony had a playstation controller with same features, they would charge 90 for it

I can go on and on with your other comments but you should use intelligence and figure out why portable cost more than stationary, look up laptops and desktops and their price, and ask why laptops cost more? maybe then you will find the answer
