Five Genius Suggestions For Saving The Fallout Franchise

Nic Rueben writes: "While most of us remember the expansive, non linear quest lines, the agonising moral choices, and the robust character customisation, what Fallout seems to mean to Bethesda is shooting things to swing music. Also, there's a dog in there somewhere."

I didn't know fallout needed saving, hasn't fallout 4 sold like 15 million.

chris2352416d ago

it did. but mcdonalds is also serving millions a day and it is utter crap

TheMuffDiver2415d ago

HA HA I love Fallout but your comment is awesome!!! Fallout just needs a new engine to run on!! you can polish a turd all day but at the end of the day....well u see.

Princess_Pilfer2416d ago

Just because it's successful, doesn't mean it isn't in need of being rescued. It's gone from a deep and complex, if clunky, RPG, to a shallow, repetitive shooter with basically none of what made Fallout good.

Krysis2415d ago

Well guess what, you can bitch about it all you want but Bethesda doesn't make games for you and me anymore. They make them for the casual crowd who buy skyrim and fallout cause they are trendy. Not saying you have to like it, cause I dont but you should probably get over it.

fiveby92415d ago

Well I liked FO4 but I preferred New Vegas for sure. I wouldn't say Fallout needs rescuing but it surely needs some improvement. Many people who played FO4 didn't play earlier titles so they have no basis for comparison. I do agree Bethesda needs a new revamped engine.

Cobra9512415d ago

It doesn't need saving, unless it's about to fall into microtransaction and loot-box hell. Then it would. I have no faith in "AAA" development anymore. The dominant forces there have moved to a different place, one that doesn't serve us.

Princess_Pilfer2415d ago

Unless you consider popularity to be the only thing that matters, that still doesn't change that Fallout needs to be saved. Knowing Bethesda isn't going to do it isn't really relevant to that.

Krysis2415d ago (Edited 2415d ago )

But it is relevant as they are the only ones that can save it, it's their IP. And after the popularity and critical success of fallout 4 do you really believe they will go back to the deeper RPG mechanics? I don't think so. I mean I didn't buy or play Skyrim or Fallout 4 because of its casual design. I'm sad at the watered down RPG we are getting from developers that were know for deep and engaging mechanics. Casual gamers need to speak up because they are the ones being told they are too dumb to figure out these deeper mechanics.

Princess_Pilfer2415d ago

I repeat, knowing they aren't going to do it doesn't mean it doesn't "need" to happen.

Profchaos2416d ago

I prefer fallout 4 to 3 /NV judging by sales I'm not alone it's more a small vocal minority that wants fallout to stop evolving

galgor2416d ago

Fallout 4 did those numbers BECAUSE of 3 and NV. The anticipation was big because there was such a wait between series entries. Couple that with an approach that was marketed to mass appeal, the game was always gonna sell well.

The problem lies in what we see happen time and time again, which is what made something once great gets diluted in a bid for bigger appeal.

SlightlyRetarted2415d ago

Exactly. Bethesda did show very little of the game before launch, so i bought F4 because i loved 3 and New Vegas. I could have never known how toned down all the RPG elements were or how shitty the quest design was. I have very little hope for a good Bethesda Fallout RPG in the future.

BuildTheWall2416d ago

The only thing needed to improve the Fallout series is a new game plus mode.

Soulst0rmer2416d ago

Also, all the DLC focusing around creating things was pointless and not fun at all. Both New Vegas and Fallout 3 had excellent DLC that accompanied train game. Fallout 4 has way too much Creations crap

TheMuffDiver2415d ago

Very true even though i thought the building and creations was a good idea i could never get it to work right.

KyRo2416d ago

A new graphics engine, animations that don't look robot like (the facial animations are worse that ME:A), actual play testing before the games released, make the NPCs likeable rather than them talking with their expression less faces, make the gunplay better. I could go on for hours. Fallout is one of the most overrated game series of all time. Great concept, awful engine which the Devs refuse to fix.

irishyort2415d ago (Edited 2415d ago )

Sooooo... When did it need saving again.... You know what needs to be saved though, I want to play remastered New Vegas please, even better - also do it on the Vita and the Switch please :) I will have no time for anything else... ever!

Sony shares big new PS Plus stat, but not the one we want to see

PlayStation Plus has improved the split of PS4 and PS5 players on its priciest tiers, but Sony continues to hide total subscriber numbers.

lol acting like it’s equivalent to ms numbers

Mr Logic17h ago

Uh...They're definitely not equivalent.

"Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service now has 34 million subscribers."

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

darthv7216h ago(Edited 16h ago)

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is Darth.

darthv7212h ago

^^it's not supposed to be bloop.... it's just an interesting observation.

Have you ever heard of a PC before? I hear they are pretty popular.

fr0sty5h ago

MS started lumping gold subscribers in with those GP numbers... keep in mind.

shinoff218315h ago(Edited 15h ago)

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv7215h ago(Edited 15h ago)

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

victorMaje15h ago

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

RedDevils9h ago

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

meganick13h ago

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz6h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand1255h ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

KevtheDuff2h ago

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?

Hope SH2 gets more polish before release.

P_Bomb1d 11h ago

I’m not paying $94 CAD for what they’ve shown me. Looks rough as sin.

Fishy Fingers1d 11h ago

Ive seen better lip syncing during a Punch and Judy show

Sonic18811d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

This looks terrible. Capcom should have done the remake 😂 The animations and gameplay looks stiff.

-Foxtrot1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Okay. I was saying before in another article how SH2 looked better than the last trailer, which is true but damn this looks rough as hell.

I wanted RE4 / Dead Space remake quality

Sonic18811d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

I wouldn't buy it for $70 dollars. Maybe when it's on sale.

-Foxtrot1d 10h ago

Yeah full price, deluxe editions, Konami are f***** tripping here.

CrimsonWing691d 10h ago

The characters look terrible to me… like it’s distracting.

I will give this game a chance!!! let's go!

Cheat providers for competitive games should be illegal.

Rynxie1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

This is what developers and manufacturers should do. I know going after cheat devices/makers is a cat and mouse game, and cost money. However, they can get that money back by sueing these manufacturers of cheat devices. Take a page from Nintendo's playbook.
