Diablo Immortal: Hands-On Impressions - IGN

IGN: "James talks us through his hands-on experience with Blizzard's new mobile game - Diablo Immortal."

ECHOINFINITY2035d ago

Mobile could be awesome. The tec is there now where if developers break the freemium mobile mold and make real gaming experiences there is potential. With that said, they should have announced this in addition to a proper sequel on PC and consoles.

Godmars2902035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

Its a Diablo licensed game being made by a company known for making Diablo clone games. Its unlikely to push any tech.

Likewise, if free, its very likely to follow the freemium model. If - somehow - its not, not only expect it to cost what a console/PC game would, but it to have F2P options as well.

ECHOINFINITY2035d ago

Regardless, the potential is there. Seems everyone just wants mobile to fail. If developers get their acts together mobile could be great in the future.

TheGoodestBoi2035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

As someone who does not game on mobile, please explain what this potential is that I may be overlooking?

ECHOINFINITY2034d ago

Man I can't believe the close mindedness lol. The potential? How about the fact that nearly everyone is walking around with very capable mobile gaming devices in their pockets, and with family plans you're whole family can have access to games you've purchased with a one time payment? If developers ever decide to make real full fledged gaming experiences for mobile with a premium purchase instead of using the garbage freemium model we see right now, it doesn't take a genius to admit there is potential.

TheGoodestBoi2034d ago

Sorry but it's simply not battery efficient considering smartphones are mainly used for other purposes. The scenario you paint is more for mobile gaming devices, because those are dedicated to gaming and actually have a built in control scheme that can work for games.

Already said yet you seem to keep ignoring it even when mentioning it: the freemium model. The very reason mobile gaming is its own thing is that most are F2P. Are tailored to make you spend money for expedience sake with plenty of excessive examples.

Godmars2902034d ago

*facepalm*

The "potential" you're looking for is based on goodwill in the face of greed, and a push in tech that requires someone to buy the latest phone. There are no "developers" pushing gaming on phones, just publishers who want a version of the freemium model no one complains about. If it was otherwise then some mobiles titles would come to consoles after a time rather than disappearing at soon as they stop making money.

ECHOINFINITY2034d ago (Edited 2034d ago )

I'm not saying this new diablo will be any better than all the other freemium mobile games. I'm saying mobile as a platform has potential, whether anyone admits it or not. What we need is a proper developer to step up and take the platform to the next level. Will it actually happen? I don't know. Is it possible? Obviously, thus there is "potential". There are some devs that aren't as greedy (ie. CDPR).

Godmars2902034d ago

*double facepalm*

"I'm saying mobile as a platform has potential"

*double facepalm*

What in the business culture makes you think that they'll change their way from current abusive trends?

ECHOINFINITY2033d ago

Face-palm all you like, but you are describing human greed when I am speaking to the potential of the platform (ie. Technology, infrastructure etc.).

Not sure why this is getting so much hate? I'm looking forward to it, PUBG is a nice time waste on mobile and hilariously is more stable than the PC version!

Perhaps this will also be a nice time sink.

Sega classics, FIFA, Football Manager and so on have been pretty good for me.

RuneScape classic has also arrived! Phones are pretty powerful these days and they're always with you to get that fix.

It'll never compete with the console experience, but the choice is nice.

EddieNX 2035d ago

I'd rather poo in my hands and clap than play most mobile games. Each to their own I suppose

Killa782035d ago

'play most mobile games' - so you accept some mobile games are worth playing?

This might be one of them, look past your irrationality and pursuit of purported populism.

AirJohnston2035d ago

“pursuit of purported populism”? You’re not typing a thesis dude, just use normal words

yomfweeee2035d ago

Because it is totally the opposite of Blizzard's quality of standard. Letting another company make a game for them is ridiculous.

King_Noctis2035d ago

The problem is this game is gonna be filled to the brim with MT/IAP. It might have been acceptable is this is a straight port of Diablo 3, or if it is a premium title, but as of right now people see it nothing more than a cash grab.

Killa782035d ago

Many multiplat games are cash grabs, welcome to the industry.

neutralgamer19922035d ago

King

While I agree with you just look at AAA fully priced games launching with those same things

RacerX2035d ago

Shoot, you can buy the $100 version of the game now, and it's STILL riddled with loot boxes and MT.

NBA 2k19 even calls the money in the game MT! No shame!!

notachance2035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

well yes, to people who read the news on sunday morning on internet (like me) it's not really that bad

but imagine you're flying to blizzcon, pay for ticket and hotel, and the biggest and most important spot on their conference was given to a freaking mobile game.
at least bethesda has the decency to put a damn logo for TES:VI at the end after announcing TES mobile, even if that game will most likely take longer than Diablo IV to release.

nyu12035d ago

People hate on mobile for no reason.

Yes ofcourse most mobile games are casual stuff that you forget in 2 minutes. That doesn't mean there can't be good games on it.

WeedyOne2034d ago

Its getting hate because Blizzard hyped up Diablo stuff before Blizzcon (a PC centric event) and announced a phone game... On top of that they didn't announce ANYTHING Diablo related for the PC leading people to assume that mobile IS the future of the franchise.

It would not have received as much hate if they had revealed the mobile game as a side project along side D4 for the PC but that's not what happened and they deserve the hate they are getting.

Mobile games are a waste of battery life.

"Creating Completely New Class for Whales"

staticall11d ago

«Tempest» with water and lighting, blue-green color scheme, wow, so original. I've got a new idea - «Volcano» with power of fire and earth, brown-red color scheme, ain't it great?! /s

Cinematic in the trailer is so cheapely made, for anything Blizzard-related, it's such a shame. Also, looks like they combined monk and blood knight(?) abilities, kinda makes it look like an afterthought.

How the mighty have fallen...
