ps5 will be faster, due to the memory bandwidth speed and also the ssd speed , although i will be buying both.

darthv721535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

Actually the only thing faster on PS5 is the SSD throughput. Memory speed, cpu and gpu performance are in the SX corner. And it isnt like that SX SSD is slacking. It too is rather speedy than what PC users are familiar with.

Profchaos1535d ago

The interesting thing is the ability to load as the player turns which means that the game world doesn't have to be rendered behind the player this will be a game changer in savings for the GPU.

But ultimately I think its more niche and won't be adopted outside of first party devs

Babadook71535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

True Darth. But the advantages in XSX are minor. 18% at best and overall much lower. The SSD speed on the other hand is a massive 120% advantage for PS5 and that advantage is far more important than just load times. The game developers are already calling it a game changer. So PS5 can rightly be said to be the faster machine overall.

dcbronco1533d ago

@Babadook

The difference between ssd's is big but not as big as the difference in RAM. The SX has a 112gbs advantage on ten gbs.

Babadook71531d ago (Edited 1531d ago )

@above. Ha! It’s a 120% increase for ps5 SSD speed. Regarding RAM bandwidth; how much of an advantage for the whole 16 GB? 6% faster? Right. So not a big deal.

Zeref1529d ago (Edited 1529d ago )

@profchaos xbox demonstrated something similar, I'm actually pretty sure it's the same thing so
Its not unique to the ps5. Its called mesh shading.

It's definitely a huge deal for nextgen.

Memory bandwidth is actually better for 10GB of the Series X RAM. The SSD difference will be negligible at best, possibly a few seconds faster game loads. Most people probably won't see a difference in game. If you are traveling for instance, the world loads as you move around, you won't move fast enough to require that much speed. Even the Spiderman demo would be possible with less speed than the PS5 SSD uses. If you enter a building in a RPG, they are so small that it would be practically instantaneous on both consoles. You may save a couple seconds if you use fast travel on a world map, big deal.

The loading speed on the Series X was demoed with State of Decay 2, which wasn't designed for the advanced tech that next gen games are being developed for. Even the roughly 8 second load is great.

CaptainHenry9161535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

PS5 will also be cheaper. 10.28 teraflops with PS5 exclusives at $399 to $450. Count me in. That's the price console and budget gamers are looking for. I feel like the series X is made for hardcore gamers.

darthv721535d ago

I'm thinking it will be $499. That is a fair assessment for the PS5 while the SX would more than likely be $599 for a premium experience.

And if rumors of a cheaper series S then expect to see something half the performance be at $399

fathertime44641535d ago

Budget games are looking for game pass and services like it, not a 100 difference on the front end. With game pass its 100+ cheaper on the back end

CaptainHenry9161535d ago

@fathertime4464

I got windows gamepass and it's definitely worth the price. I'm paying like around $4.99 a month but Microsoft first party exclusives are not that good except for Ori and maybe the old Halo games other than that it's a little stale on there maybe because I played all the games that interest me only

CrimsonWing691535d ago

C'mon, I loved the PS4 this gen and hated Xbone, but even I can't deny that Xsex is the better console when it comes to performance. Let's not kid ourselves here.

mairons571534d ago

It's like American brute force vs Japanese technique.

ZeroX98761535d ago

I was expecting the Xbox to be more powerful and I was right. I'm still buying a PS5, because the games that I want to play are on that system, but in terms of raw power for consoles, it's the Xbox that wins the crown.

Donnie811535d ago

You need to look at the specs again dude

iplay1up21535d ago

You read that and that is what you come up with?😂😂

babadivad1535d ago

PS5 CPU, GPU(weaker), and memory bandwidth is slower than XSX.

The PS5 has a faster SSD but it has less storage.

When have we been so scared to call a spade a spade. The XSX CLEARLY has the superior hardware. Why are we pretending like it's had to discern which console has the superior hardware?

KillBill1535d ago

Nope, will have to see which option of access to speedy data is better. For sure Sony is paying for a direct hardware route of speed while MS has gone tech and spent the extra money on other important areas.
https://arstechnica.com/gam...

Zeref1534d ago

nope. it's just the SSD and even that is offset by Microsoft's Velocity Architecture.

timotim1535d ago

PS5 has it on the SSD in terms of brute force, but SX takes it in every other category.

0rbital711535d ago

bear in mind, they did not say this was a ps5 pro

timotim1535d ago

Oh...PS5 Pro huh...OK.

And no total bandwidth goes to SX with 560GBs/s

THC CELL1535d ago

They will be a pro mark never said anything to indicate that is the only ps5 coming

1535d ago
Nick_5151535d ago

I see there being only 1 PS5, but 2 Xbox models. The one we've seen is the "pro" model. The cheaper one will be as cheap as possible, letting them have a higher price tag on the pro. 400-450 for ps5, 450-550 for xbox.

AnubisG1535d ago

And they said there will be a PS5 Pro at launch?

Where are you “correctly” getting this information?

How did Microsoft lag out their counter bottleneck build?

I see the ol Pr soon police.. no true breakdown from a company that has not made a new game engine in ten years...

I see the fake likes in full force to drum up support/hype... but exactly, lay down the full effects of how every inch of hardware is going to work on the xxxxxxssssxxx

timotim1534d ago

Microsoft has 15 studios at current all making games for SX and exclusives for their other platforms and ecosystem. These are studios that's been hiring (often pulling talent from Sony studios) talent and expanding to multiple teams. The games they have produced recently and there track records speak for themselves.

Gears 5 - 84

Halo 5: Guardians - 84

Forza Horizon 3 - 91

Forza Horizon 4 - 92

Sea of Thieves - 69

The Outer Worlds - 86

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - 88

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut - 87

The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut - 84

Forza Motorsport 7 - 86

Forza Motorsport 6 - 87

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - 88

DmC: Devil May Cry - 86

Ori and the Will of the Wisps - 91

rpvenom1535d ago

i don't care which ones faster. just give me good exclusives.. if i cared mainly about power then I'd get a PC

0rbital711535d ago

expect to pay a lot for a pc which matches these 2 in power, i have a pc with a 1080ti 32gig ram at 3600hmz and an oc 8700k, i still will buy both of these for prime gaming

Shalawsorchi1535d ago

Very true! I think the difference will be very little when it’s coming to graphics. Just like this season.

Xb1ps41535d ago

So when it was ps4and xb1 that little extra power was made to be worlds apart and now 2tflops of extra raw power will be very little?

King_Noctis1535d ago

That was not what happened when the base PS4/Xbox One were released.

Fishy Fingers1535d ago

From a purely hardware perspective Microsoft must be feeling pretty happy right now.

0rbital711535d ago

it was a truly bullish reveal and the hardware teardown was great, but theres secret sauce in both of these consoles thatl put PC games to shame for at least a yr, the ray tracing amd chips aint even out yet. best not upgrade ya pc just yet folks

Fishy Fingers1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

They stack up well against current high end PCs for sure but with Nvidia and AMD in on verge of new GPUs it'll be for 12 months at best (against enthusiast PC)

But its win win, better consoles mean better utilisation of PC hardware (especially CPU and not 5400rpm HDD). These consoles are a blessing for PC gamers. Weak consoles keep the bar low

ElementX1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

I'm curious how the SSD tech and other optimizations will compare to a PC. You can slap any drive into a rig, but PC games aren't optimized the same way. The consoles have tech for reading compressed data and offloading processes from the CPU, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Shalawsorchi1535d ago

What is they announce a PS5 pro?

Atom6661535d ago

Then they would have led with it. If a Pro is coming, it won't be at launch.

Fishy Fingers1535d ago

Let's be Frank, if people are already talking about a Pro it's because they feel they didnt deliver.

RazzerRedux1535d ago (Edited 1535d ago )

I think that rumor can finally be put to rest. Pro will be here in 3-4 years just like the XSX err X

@Fishy

" if people are already talking about a Pro"

There were rumors of a launch PS5 Pro long before today.

Sony shares big new PS Plus stat, but not the one we want to see

PlayStation Plus has improved the split of PS4 and PS5 players on its priciest tiers, but Sony continues to hide total subscriber numbers.

lol acting like it’s equivalent to ms numbers

Mr Logic17h ago

Uh...They're definitely not equivalent.

"Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service now has 34 million subscribers."

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

darthv7217h ago(Edited 17h ago)

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

bloop13h ago

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is Darth.

darthv7212h ago

^^it's not supposed to be bloop.... it's just an interesting observation.

Have you ever heard of a PC before? I hear they are pretty popular.

MS started lumping gold subscribers in with those GP numbers... keep in mind.

shinoff218316h ago(Edited 16h ago)

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv7216h ago(Edited 16h ago)

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

victorMaje15h ago

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

RedDevils10h ago

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

meganick14h ago

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz6h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand1256h ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

KevtheDuff2h ago

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?

I’m not paying $94 CAD for what they’ve shown me. Looks rough as sin.

Sonic18811d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

This looks terrible. Capcom should have done the remake 😂 The animations and gameplay looks stiff.

-Foxtrot1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Okay. I was saying before in another article how SH2 looked better than the last trailer, which is true but damn this looks rough as hell.

I wanted RE4 / Dead Space remake quality

Sonic18811d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

I wouldn't buy it for $70 dollars. Maybe when it's on sale.

Yeah full price, deluxe editions, Konami are f***** tripping here.

Cheat providers for competitive games should be illegal.

Rynxie1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

This is what developers and manufacturers should do. I know going after cheat devices/makers is a cat and mouse game, and cost money. However, they can get that money back by sueing these manufacturers of cheat devices. Take a page from Nintendo's playbook.
