Duh.. of course hes gonna justify it...

shuvam091353d ago

He justified why I won't buy any Take Two game at launch.

mikeslemonade1353d ago

All next gen AAA games should be $69.99

v_eno_m1353d ago (Edited 1353d ago )

@mikeslemonade - "All next gen AAA games should be $69.99"

why, so CEO like Blizzard and Gearbox have higher bonuses? Cause they're not paying their grunts any of those bonuses to begin with.

Spenok1353d ago

You'll avoid Rockstar too?

Unspoken1353d ago

Take-Two CEO justifiably can take a hike.

REDGUM1353d ago (Edited 1353d ago )

I wonder how many of the people who left comments here about this article have been working for the past 15 years and would be happy with thier employers if they weren't given a payrise within the same time frame?

What they do with the money is up to them, but the GDP goes up every year. Here in Australia we average a 3% increase in all costs yearly. 3% x 15 years = 45% and yet they are increasing it by basically the same amount but instead of yearly have done it after 15 years.
I couldn't run my business down 3% consecutively year after year.

Games are getting bigger, longer, more graphical, processing etc etc and then we hear complaints about games taking up too much room or too big of a patch etc.

I know fluff all about sports games so can't comment on what they are offering but seriously.... prices of just about everything in the world go up over time, why not games too?

P.s. this is not aimed at shuvam09 at all, I was just making a point about the article in general.

DJStotty1353d ago

@redgum

But the gaming audience is growing, and publishers are selling more and more base games.

Add in to that they are all adding microtransactions and loot boxes then there is absolutely no justification for charging more for a base game.

IMissJimRyan1353d ago

If Nintendo can charge $60 for 3 emulated games with the newer with more than 10 years, it becomes easy to justify $70 on GTA VI or Red Dead Redemption III.

averagejoe261353d ago (Edited 1353d ago )

Agreed. Old ports for $60 that millions buy without question. Why not brand new games for $70?

Not saying I'm pleased to have to pay more, but it makes sense.

potatoMax1353d ago

except Nintendo is the only company you named not to include microtransactions

zeuanimals1353d ago

Title should have "fails to".

Positivelypositive 1353d ago

Then I want all that "launch day DLC" Included in the price. We don't need more games that you "own" that also have 700 dollars of day one DLC just waiting for your idiot kid to use your CC to buy all of. This industry is becoming nothing but greed. To be fair that is the standard so why change.

I will get WAY more play hours out of three Mario games for 60 dollars than their new 8 hour campaign games they want you to buy for 70.

If they were like "look this price is to help us pay the artist and programmers more and help improve the lives of all who are working so hard in our industry.

I would be like... cool I can get behind that. It's not. The Board at the top wants more yachts.

JackBNimble1352d ago

If your kid has your credit card number then the idiot is you.
Who the hell gives their cc to their kid anyway, that's just asking for trouble.

As a parent myself I have parent control's setup and passwords that only I know so only I can actually purchase games and dlc on my kids console.

badz1491353d ago

Kinda big douchebaggery when the game with very low effort yearly rehash and full of MT in NBA 2K is among the first to justify the price hike. What a scum!

Vits1354d ago

@olivier1

Do you understand how regional pricing work? Clearly no.... And unfortunately a lot of publisher don't get it either.

IMissJimRyan1353d ago

In Brazil we pay around 48 usd for a launch game.

neomahi1353d ago (Edited 1353d ago )

You can blame EA for that. Your very own screw you over. Canada sucks. Nothing like the great U.S. of A. Freedom and opportunity, we bow to no king or queen. EA are the masters of pocket picking. They nickel and dime to you to death and love it with zero remorse. Their huge supporters of paid DLC and Microtransactions, moreso then any other company, not mention the whole lootbox b.s.

SegaGamer1354d ago

I guarantee that I will never buy a game that costs that much money. I don't even buy them for 60.

Gaming4Life19811353d ago

Yea i wont pay 70 for a videogame but luckily i gameshare on xbox and ps so im good.

v_eno_m1353d ago

unfortunately, once the medium becomes all digital, we wont have a choice unless they have sales

SegaGamer1353d ago

@v_eno_m

Well that's the thing, there will always be sales, and if that is what I have to wait for to buy a game, then so be it. I have been doing that for the past 10 years anyway.

averagejoe261353d ago

Yea, people here are delusional. The millions upon millions of casual gamers aren't going to suddenly stop buying games because they're $10 more.

jukins1353d ago

Eh im pretty sure I remember spending 90 on iron sword for nes more than 30 years ago

Rambokind1353d ago

Speak for yourself. "We" is editorial.

xer01353d ago

It's how darn expensive they've gotten.

I remember when studios were asked why games cost $50 / £50, about 10 years ago.
They justified price hikes then because there was the cost of:

- packaging
- the medium (optical disc)
- translation of manuals / artwork
- distribution
- duplicated assets taking extra development time and space on blu-rays

Now that games are distributed online without most of this stuff... and with assets being theoretically less because of the fast SSDs... I don't know how they can justify this cost.

It's basically capitalism 101 😏

blackblades1353d ago

Eventually games will go on sale and as a cheapassgamer I always wait til theyre $30 and below.

Yppupdam1353d ago

Only if your stupid, or not paying for the game with your own money, everyone just has to wait till the price drops, and voila, you don't pay 70.00 US.

They're called "Take-Two" because they're gonna Take Two extra fives.

That was so dumb, but I laughed anyway.

ArchangelMike1354d ago

That's the best one I've heard 🤣🤣🤣

Skuletor1353d ago

It's going to take two price drops before I pick up any of their games now

Kabaneri1353d ago

Are they actually gonna charge $70 for GTA5 ReRemaster?

neutralgamer19921353d ago

That game should be flat $100 why stop at $70

Trying to push players over from PC to console is a terrible idea, PlayStation

As PlayStation announces its new strategy to encourage PC users to choose PS5 it is a bitter-sweet moment for PC gamers.

Christopher19h ago

I mean, it's a business based on hardware market. Do we expect them to not even try? It's not like Nintendo doesn't do the same by not putting any games on PC and Microsoft until recently did the same. I don't care what they attempt, as long as they don't abuse the community or lie about their goals/requirements.

Will it work? Not likely. Should we care? No. Let them waste their time, it doesn't affect anything.

RaidenBlack18h ago

let them try ... at the end of the day, we get few extra PC games ... yay ... and also promotes game preservation via PC ... so double yay.

LordoftheCritics2h ago

If only Playstation games provided the ease of pc gaming features.

Primary being very few PS games support m/kb.

Fishy Fingers17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I wish them the best of luck.

But PC players are often a patient bunch, many will even wait for Epic launcher exclusivity to end until a game comes to Steam.

If they didnt buy the console when its games were exclusive, why would they do it now theyre not?

MrNinosan3h ago

Way more do than you probably think.

ravens523h ago

All you need is that one game that'll make a few switch at a time. Like a game a PC player REALLY wants.

outsider16249m ago

I mean if there's 10 million pc gamers out there...getting atleast just 1 million from there is probably a good thing..right?

-Foxtrot17h ago

PC gamers are just too patient and loyal to their gaming set ups, something they've spent a lot of money on to perfect. They have backlogs of games which many never get round to finishing or get round to at all and will always have other multiplatform releases to keep them going.

Over the many years Sony has published so many awesome titles such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamous, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Dreams, Puppeteer, Resistance, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo, Motor Storm, God of War, Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne

If none of those games BEFORE all these PC ports convinced a hardcore PC gamer to get a PS5 console then why on Earth would porting them them to PC now make any difference? All PC gamers now know 100% is that they just have to be patient, which they are good at anyway to get a PS5 game 2 years later.

I get GaaS games or multiplayer focused titles but if people really want to play these games they'd have gotten a PS console years ago.

Crows9032m ago

Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer.

Not sure why people are obsessing over his comment...it seems pretty simple to me.

He will do all he can to entice gamers to move to his ecosystem. As you say....exclusives existing hasn't moved many gamers over. But if they get to try them and love the games then they might change their mind about waiting 2 years.

We're in an echo chamber on this site...I've Personally seen people with Xbox and PC setups but no PlayStation. I've also seen people with small PC setups but no console. Not every pc gamer invests thousands and many may decide to put one in the living room.

They're not looking to convince all of players to buy a PlayStation...just a few...and really it is just a PR statement after all...they have to give a reason why single player won't release day 1....not to mention they also have to ensure current PlayStation gamers don't jump ship to PC. It goes both ways and they're ignoring the big L by putting any of their games off their platform.

Kakashi Hatake13m ago

PC gamers think tomorrow is promised. Sorry, don't have time for that.

helicoptergirl17h ago

Who cares? Then just stay on PC and play the waiting game. No big deal. Sony wins in the end anyway.

Number1TailzFan17h ago

I mean if there's any single player Sony games that I actually want that aren't on PC then I would buy said console to play them on. But the ones that I like that aren't on PC are few and far between anyway so no loss for me.

If I game, it's usually multiplayer titles, otherwise I like playing around with some other software.

Sony shares big new PS Plus stat, but not the one we want to see

PlayStation Plus has improved the split of PS4 and PS5 players on its priciest tiers, but Sony continues to hide total subscriber numbers.

lol acting like it’s equivalent to ms numbers

Mr Logic18h ago

Uh...They're definitely not equivalent.

"Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service now has 34 million subscribers."

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

darthv7218h ago(Edited 18h ago)

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

bloop14h ago

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is Darth.

MS started lumping gold subscribers in with those GP numbers... keep in mind.

shinoff218317h ago(Edited 17h ago)

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv7217h ago(Edited 17h ago)

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

victorMaje16h ago

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

RedDevils11h ago

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

meganick15h ago

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz8h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand1257h ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

KevtheDuff4h ago

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?
