Pretty weak remaster, honestly.

MadLad789d ago

Lol.
I'm not saying not to buy it, I'm just saying they could have done hell of a lot more with a game this old.

This is why I just emulate past games unless they put out full blown remakes.

Eidolon789d ago

Didn't get that far into it, trophies alone are worth the buy. Just wish they did "remasters" like this for Vita.

mandf789d ago

You are absolutely right. This game for its day didn't get the shine it deserved. It should be a classic gamers didn't play it back in the day.

jeromeface789d ago

It's pretty hard to remaster something so old and it not look "weak". If you uprez a pencil sketch its not suddenly a masterpiece.

MadLad789d ago

As someone who is big into the emulation scene, you can do hell of a lot with most 3d engines.
And that's just people working on passion projects in their spare time.

This is a paid product from a professional studio.

brewin789d ago

It is pretty disappointing that they took such a beloved franchise and just did a remaster instead of a remake. How the hell does Secret of Mana get a full-on remake but Chrono gets shafted into a remaster?!

I'll save my judgment for the final product but it's definitely a head scratcher. I thought Trials of Mana turned out pretty good, I don't see why they couldn't just have done that. I hope they do do that with Chrono Trigger!

aarallen1788d ago

It's 3D characters with static backgrounds. What are they really going to do for a $20 game in a series they have neglected?

MadLad788d ago

Updated the 3d models. AI render the backgrounds or rework them. Retool the particle effects. Remaster the audio. There's a lot you can do without costing an arm and a leg in production costs.

Again, the modding scene does this as a hobby.

aarallen1773d ago

Modders do this as a hobby, but Square doesn't. They aren't going to risk much on a franchise they haven't touched in almost 22 years.

Milking the Cow until it drops dead.

jeromeface789d ago (Edited 789d ago )

square enix knows all about that... but considering this is the franchises first rerelease in over 20 years I'd say you're not accurate on this one.

Teflon02789d ago

Have they ever re-released this outside PS classics on ps3/psp/vita? Which isn't really a re-released?

Snookies12789d ago

You serious? Care to tell me when the last port of Chrono Cross was? How is this milking anything? This series is in desperate need of a revival. This is one people should be supporting, if they want the series to continue.

Pretentious789d ago

The best part about the original game is the soundtrack. They have "refined" this soundtrack (made it worse) and do not let you switch to the original. Dumb.

Knightofelemia789d ago

Still gabbing this I wish they would throw Chrono Trigger into the mix I wonder if SquareEnix will remaster Xenogears.

Why Are So Many Remasters Sub-Par At Launch?

Remasters are fantastic, but they're also a little bit weird. They give us the chance to revisit some of our favourite games from our childhood, give new players the opportunity to share in our experiences, and sometimes they represent the first time a game is getting an international release. But why are they so inconsistent.

Lazyness money grabbing sums it up. Definetly when the game gets remastered for the 2nd time like symphonia. SR3 remaster they went in and touched it up more then a supposedly remaster would. Lately there been remakes insteadve remasters and Namco shouldve remade symphonia after tales of arise success insteadve a 2nd remaster. I'll be damn of they released a 3rd insteadve a remake. With the lasted they should had done a touch up like SR3 did and fix the issues amongst others problems or a remake like RE
