Gran Turismo 7 + PSVR 2 Full Review: Gimmick or Game Changer? | GT Planet

PSVR 2 really does change the way you play GT7, and I would even go so far as to say it makes it feel like an entirely different experience. I never actually considered myself much of a car collector in GT7, but now I want to drive as many as I can get my hands on just to see what they are like.

It feels like Gran Turismo 7’s full VR support completes not just the game, but larger objectives Polyphony Digital has been pursuing for years. It changes the game, and it represents a significant milestone in the history of this franchise and the racing game genre at large.

Game changer for me. Im seriously considering getting a wheel because of it.

Deathdeliverer453d ago

Makes two of us. I never entertained the thought of a racing wheel but yeah… I think they got me on the hook.

VenomUK453d ago

I tried it a little earlier today. The introductory race was like, woah I'm inside a car racing! It was so good in that you feel like you're in a car racing. It got my stomach a bit, especially when I was moving lanes- but not too much. Then when I had a look at the car in the showroom/outdoor carpark it looked REAL. And then when I sat in it, my reaction was genuine wonder as it FELT real! I then did a race on the first NA track and it had depth and grooves and I won.

I recorded my reaction to it all but sadly it didn't pick up the sound for some reason.

crazyCoconuts453d ago

You should. It's a must for total immersion.

Anomander453d ago

Agree with the wheel part, but part of me knows I won’t be satisfied unless it’s mounted correctly. That means building as proper mounting system or buying one premade.

If I had the money I’d look into one that supports a sit down style like you are driving and cross functional for flying VR games too like No Man’s Sky.

derek453d ago (Edited 453d ago )

I was in a night time race in a stacked vett I bought and when you enter into the tunnels and the light floods the interior of the car as you enter, perfection. This game is amazing. I was looking into one of those yaw moving racing chairs, never thought I would.

Knushwood Butt453d ago

Yeah, the in-car lighting really cements the immersion. Dawn / dusk is another good one.

Darthv72

Just ordered it all. Just waiting the psvr2. I got the wheel rig setup and gt7. Can't wait

Imalwaysright453d ago

A wheel is a game changer for racing games as well. If you can afford to combine a proper wheel and VR then it's a no brainer especially if you're a fan of racing games.

SullysCigar453d ago

Pease do it darthv72, I know you'll love it. You can always mount to a full set up in the future if you enjoy it regularly.

I'm thinking we might even see GT7 get a bump in the charts and that will only encourage more driving games to make it into VR. F1 2023 would be nice for the purists, but for me, I'd like a rally game or even better, a kart racer!

Fighting the wheel when you fishtail or during a power slide is an incredible rush - it takes me back, it feels so good - and if you keep in on the road after a spin the endorphins are off the chart! I went for a Thrustmaster T300 RS, with just the basic 2 pedals, no shifter (I use the paddles or just automatic) and even that is amazing. I'm enjoying it so much, I'm thinking of upgrading to a direct drive fanatec, depending how many driving games release over the next year.

One tip for anyone out there with a wheel - whether you buy new or used, make sure you plug it into a PC/laptop and update the firmware!

darthv72452d ago

I see you use the T300. There is a guy local to me who has a still in box T150 that he bought to use on his PS3/4 but just sat there (so he says). He is only asking like $100 for it and i will see if i can get it for 80-90. I was reading some reviews and watching vids and i know its an entry level FFB wheel but it is better than the T80 which has no FFB. And it works with PS3, 4 and 5 to which I have lots of other driving/racing games I could use with it.

I know these generally go for more so yeah at that price its worth the try. I figure this will be a good start and I can always upgrade if I really get deeply involved in the virtual racing scene.

frostypants452d ago (Edited 452d ago )

Don't cheap out on pedals. People underestimate how important that is. Often bundles have a decent mid-range wheel bundled with hot garbage pedals.

SullysCigar452d ago

Lol that's what I've got. They're okay now I modded them (which was a piece of cake and took 2 minutes), but I'm thinking of upgrading to a better set, because the break pedal has a dead spot at the start of the press. i have lessened it, but I'll just find a better stock set and swap them out I think. The wheel is great though, no dead spot, 1080 degree rotation, very strong force feedback and immersive rumble for different terrains, crashes, blowouts - it's pretty clever stuff these days.

Ash01Live452d ago

Definitely get one. Try a thrustmaster 300.

Game changer and console VR users already knew this. PC VR racers knew this. You don't just play the game. You experience it. You live it.

I'm just glad more individuals are learning this fact too. Sony's flagship title has definitely changed a lot of mindsets on console. Detailed graphics on a flat screen is still cool. But then there's VR. Totally ups the game.

SullysCigar453d ago

Great to see the guys at GT Planet loving PSVR2. They REALLY know their racing! the review launched and had well over 3,000 comments in just a few hours lol

Outlawzz453d ago

Well just got my ps5 yesterday next stop psvr lol its just so damn expensive, I'll get one in a few months

jznrpg453d ago

For what you are getting it’s a great deal in my mind. Yes it’s not “cheap” but it’s really high end tech and in comparison it’s much more affordable for the experience you get than other options that are close to it .

NotoriousWhiz452d ago

Welcome to the club. I just picked up a PS5 about a month ago. Also got the PSVR2 but haven't played it yet. Need to make some adjustments to my play area (not enough space currently) but I plan to hop on it for the first time sometime this weekend. Probably going to start with Kayak VR and Moss. Gonna tackle Horizon after I've built up my VR legs.

SullysCigar452d ago

I love Kayak VR and got lost in it the other night, just mooching around looking at the wildlife. I even mounted my controllers to a stick to simulate the paddle! There are settings that allow for this and they're very intricate, so it's easier to do that people think - it's quite forgiving tracking.

All I would say is take it slow in Kayak and dip in and out of it until you're good in VR. I played it solid for 2 hours and started to feel 'hungry' even though I'd eaten loads. Then I realised it was a bit of motion sickness creeping in, so I heeded the warning and stopped playing - NEVER push through it. Next night, 2 more hours, felt great! It's quick to adjust, but you have to let your body be the judge and don't try to toughen up.

Next up, Pavlov!

generic-user-name453d ago

I was racing in an American muscle car of some kind, a '69 or '70 and as I was checking out the old school dash, I noticed the odometer was actually ticking up as I was driving. I also had the time set to go 30x faster than standard and the in-car clock was spinning around rapidly. Not sure I'd have noticed these details playing traditionally. VR lets you get a real close look.

Sorry but PSVR2 is dead and double dead at any sale price. It was dead before it launched as the "premium" VR scene lost all the AAA developers and now it is all indie mobile phone crap quality software.

State of Play | May 30, 2024

State of Play is back! Tune in live for updates on PS5 and PS VR2 titles, plus a look at PlayStation Studios games arriving later this year.

darthv721d 15h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Im getting a bit of GotG vibes from Concord.

Ragnarok coming September 2024... that's just shy of 2 years since the PS5 release in November 2022.

-Foxtrot1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

I thought exactly the same. If they made it more like the GotG game and it wasn't online focused I'd have been sold instantly.

BISHOP-BRASIL1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Yup, I was hyped up by the cinematic trailer and immediately put off the moment the gameplay trailer started, that was very high quality and great concept cinematic just for another Overwatch wannabe... Here's hoping they succeed so eventually someday they make an actual campaign focused entry for the franchise, but I'm not holding my breath and I'm definitely not falling for always online crap and FOMO just to follow drip fed cinematic "content".

EDIT: I'm still watching it as I comment... OMG they have another hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, seriously, they missed 2020 or something? For those not into online only and VR games, gotta say, poor show so far...

Profchaos1d 14h ago

Gotg would of been a hit if it released before Avengers was my goty a few years back so I'm intrigued here

RaidenBlack1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

GotG is very underrated and had the unfortunate luck of releasing just after Avengers.
Its really good and more people should play it.

Lightning771d 11h ago

Concord didn't do anything for me personally just another Overwatch mash up with other fps stuff. I mostly popped for Dynasty Warriors for next year. That was my biggest reveal I was genuinely excited for.

No Ghost 2. It's very clear Sony will wait later to Announce the Big Aaa's they don't wanna announce stuff too early and rather announce it closer to release.

darthv721d 14h ago

Maybe its just me but Astrobot looked more R&C inspired than ever.

P_Bomb1d 14h ago

Astro won the show. Looks epic! Huge bosses too like from the PSVR game.

shinoff21831d 14h ago

Astro bot and silent hill 2 remake are what I'm liking out of this.

RaidenBlack1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Most games appeared good.
Where Winds Meet and Monster Hunter seemed like those needed a bit more polish but that's ok as those aren't releasing anytime soon but I am still kinda worried regarding SH2Remake. Still looks rough and from rear view, James Sunderland looks nearly identical to Leon Kennedy's model from RE4Remake. Hope I am wrong though.
Other games were decent. Even Marvel Rivals.
Ballad of Antara was the highlight for me, followed by Infinity Nikki(purely on the art style alone).
And glad that, Path of Exile 2 is coming to PS5 and Ragnarok is coming to PC!
Behemoth for VR2 also looked really interesting.

PapaBop1d 14h ago

You actually liked Infinity Nikki art style?

PSPSA1d 5h ago

Was my favorite looking game of the show, art style looks amazing

RaidenBlack1d 3h ago

Its not my type of game ...but the design and art style is really well thought out

Lightning771d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Marvel Rivals had a PC invite alpha test a few weeks back and they love the hell out it saying it's an Overwatch killer. I'm definitely down to play and play as my favorite.

STORM. ❄️💨🌊⚡

There's a closed beta in July on consoles but I doubt I'll be able to get in.

InUrFoxHole1d 7h ago

In overwatch 's defense didn't it kill itself?

Michiel19891d 4h ago

they also gave out beta keys where you had to sign an nda not to say anything negative about the game, otherwise you could not play. Don't support stuff like that :) surprised they even showed it here cause it looks terrible and it will fail faster than Artifact
