PSVR2 Gran Turismo 7 review: Hitting the track in virtual reality | Driven

Easily one of the most realistic experiences I have ever had in a video game.

It's nice to see the folks out in New Zealand are also loving their new "vyar hidsits".

Knushwood Butt388d ago

Yep, it's awesome.
For improvements I'd like them to implement pit stops in VR too so that there is no jarring flip into and out of pancake mode during pit stops.

SmortBoie388d ago

Question for the fine folks enjoying this delectable title in VR2.
Is it worth playing with just a regular controller, or is the steering wheel an absolute must-have only option for this bad boy?
I've been keeping my eye out for a wheel but they aren't exactly cheap, along with the game, and the VR2 was a wallet bomb in itself (just for a few, albeit excellent, titles so far).

Neonridr388d ago

naturally immersion is sent to another level with a wheel / pedal setup. But you can still enjoy it with a controller.

mandf388d ago

Steering wheel is insane. The controller works good. Once you use the wheel you won't go back though to the controller. I highly recommend getting a wheel with vr it's so immersive

EazyC388d ago

It's great without a wheel, I tried it with the motion controls and it's still a blast. I'd use that and then decide if you want to take the plunge into wheel setups. There's a lot to consider there, like space and stability etc.

tombfan388d ago

I play GT7 with motions controllers long before VR2 came around, and it was an amazing experience then and a total blast now, i do feel like I have somewhat a wheel in my hands and the input is instant, the game detects even the slightest move of your controller.

So... 100% worth it without the steering kit wheel. But i'm sure that with the kit it'd be 1000000% more immersive.

SullysCigar388d ago

Lots of people love it with the regular controller. The developers have done an amazing job on the feedback through the controller, with so many nice touches - it's awesome.

...But, to echo everyone else, a steering wheel takes it to the next level. if you go that route, buy wise - if you're looking to save some money, you can pick up some great second hand bargains with wheel, seat, frame, the works, where people are trying to reclaim the space.

SmortBoie388d ago

Thanks for your input champs! Chomping at the bit to try it out. Game and controller first, with an eye kept open for a good wheel down the road. :)

Controller is fine if that's all you have
Wheel adds immersion and precision
VR + Wheel gives you a 1:1 experience

Anyone who hasn’t done this yet, is missing out big time.

EazyC388d ago

It goes beyond videogames imo. If you seriously want to race a car around tracks irl it's technically a bargain substitute

Knushwood Butt388d ago

This. I mean, when are you going to get the chance to even sit in a Porsche 917K in real life? This is easily the next best thing.
Plus, not only is it massively cheaper than track days, it's also safe! Unless you happen to fall off your seat when your mind is blown when trying it for the first time.

RIP Craig Breen.

EazyC388d ago

It's the best thing I've ever done in a videogame. With a rig it's surreal.

SullysCigar388d ago

Same. Literally every gaming session starts with GT7 in VR until I've covered the miles to get a reward. Then I often can't peel myself away to play anything else!

buffig388d ago

Couldn't agree more. With a full rig, it's astonishing. If there was never another PSVR2 game released I wouldn't care, because I play GT7 everyday and couldn't play it any other way now

Knushwood Butt388d ago

Agree, I just need the energy for it! After a long day at work yesterday I just didn't have the energy to take on the next Super Formula race I'm working on.

I haven't touched my other PSVR2 games for weeks.

Sorry but PSVR2 is dead and double dead at any sale price. It was dead before it launched as the "premium" VR scene lost all the AAA developers and now it is all indie mobile phone crap quality software.

State of Play | May 30, 2024

State of Play is back! Tune in live for updates on PS5 and PS VR2 titles, plus a look at PlayStation Studios games arriving later this year.

Im getting a bit of GotG vibes from Concord.

Ragnarok coming September 2024... that's just shy of 2 years since the PS5 release in November 2022.

-Foxtrot1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

I thought exactly the same. If they made it more like the GotG game and it wasn't online focused I'd have been sold instantly.

BISHOP-BRASIL1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Yup, I was hyped up by the cinematic trailer and immediately put off the moment the gameplay trailer started, that was very high quality and great concept cinematic just for another Overwatch wannabe... Here's hoping they succeed so eventually someday they make an actual campaign focused entry for the franchise, but I'm not holding my breath and I'm definitely not falling for always online crap and FOMO just to follow drip fed cinematic "content".

EDIT: I'm still watching it as I comment... OMG they have another hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, seriously, they missed 2020 or something? For those not into online only and VR games, gotta say, poor show so far...

Profchaos1d 14h ago

Gotg would of been a hit if it released before Avengers was my goty a few years back so I'm intrigued here

RaidenBlack1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

GotG is very underrated and had the unfortunate luck of releasing just after Avengers.
Its really good and more people should play it.

Lightning771d 11h ago

Concord didn't do anything for me personally just another Overwatch mash up with other fps stuff. I mostly popped for Dynasty Warriors for next year. That was my biggest reveal I was genuinely excited for.

No Ghost 2. It's very clear Sony will wait later to Announce the Big Aaa's they don't wanna announce stuff too early and rather announce it closer to release.

darthv721d 14h ago

Maybe its just me but Astrobot looked more R&C inspired than ever.

P_Bomb1d 14h ago

Astro won the show. Looks epic! Huge bosses too like from the PSVR game.

shinoff21831d 14h ago

Astro bot and silent hill 2 remake are what I'm liking out of this.

RaidenBlack1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Most games appeared good.
Where Winds Meet and Monster Hunter seemed like those needed a bit more polish but that's ok as those aren't releasing anytime soon but I am still kinda worried regarding SH2Remake. Still looks rough and from rear view, James Sunderland looks nearly identical to Leon Kennedy's model from RE4Remake. Hope I am wrong though.
Other games were decent. Even Marvel Rivals.
Ballad of Antara was the highlight for me, followed by Infinity Nikki(purely on the art style alone).
And glad that, Path of Exile 2 is coming to PS5 and Ragnarok is coming to PC!
Behemoth for VR2 also looked really interesting.

PapaBop1d 14h ago

You actually liked Infinity Nikki art style?

PSPSA1d 5h ago

Was my favorite looking game of the show, art style looks amazing

RaidenBlack1d 3h ago

Its not my type of game ...but the design and art style is really well thought out

Lightning771d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

Marvel Rivals had a PC invite alpha test a few weeks back and they love the hell out it saying it's an Overwatch killer. I'm definitely down to play and play as my favorite.

STORM. ❄️💨🌊⚡

There's a closed beta in July on consoles but I doubt I'll be able to get in.

InUrFoxHole1d 7h ago

In overwatch 's defense didn't it kill itself?

Michiel19891d 3h ago

they also gave out beta keys where you had to sign an nda not to say anything negative about the game, otherwise you could not play. Don't support stuff like that :) surprised they even showed it here cause it looks terrible and it will fail faster than Artifact
