And in other respects it's like one game in one

closed_account353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Todd Howard being Todd Howard!

But truthfully, I'm curious to try this on PC and see if it actually lives up to Howard's bombast for once. Skyrim was fun, despite the jank... and there was a ton.. and still has!

I think I'll keep my expectations in check.. which will probably be gorgeous and janky...really janky.

My favorite version of Skyrim was the VR version, and i know we're a long way off from that. I'll be really excited when they announce Starfield VR though!

**edit - one thing's for sure... they'll try to sell it to us 5-6 times!

LordoftheCritics353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Just be glad he didn't say 16 games in one.

From what we've seen, this could turn out to be a massive success.

I would recommend a full quarter year of patches before digging in as usual.

closed_account353d ago

@LordoftheCritics I hope it does turn out good! Of course I'd rather play it on my PS5, but at least I'm not shut out from PC version.

I will buy it, not messing with Gamepass. I played nothing but Skyrim for the entire first month it launched, had it Platinumed on the terrible PS3 port! 😂

CoNn3rB353d ago

I'd still urge you to get it on Gamepass first even if it's just to try it out. If you love it then that's great but if it sucks then at least you didn't piss away £60 or however much it costs in your region. Gamepass on PC isn't hard to use so at worst all you've lost is a little bit of time

Godmars290353d ago

Its sixteen times the game you'll ever be!

Christopher352d ago

It's infinite times the number of games I will ever be, thank you very much!

Bathyj353d ago

Or jack of all trades, master of none. But I'll reserve judgement. I actually liked the showing. It's a shame MS bought them.

Gunstar75353d ago

It's because MS bought them that it wasn't rushed out 2 years ago

Nineball2112353d ago

Why is that a shame? Would it have been a shame if Sony bought them?

Christopher352d ago

Honestly, Todd is being Todd here. This has nothing to do with Microsoft at all. This game is pure, unadulterated Todd material.

sparky77353d ago

I am expecting one of the planets will literally be Skyrim.

EvertonFC353d ago

That would actually be really cool

RaidenBlack353d ago

Hoping for a Fallout inspired/style doomed habitat on a planet?
Actually, scratch that, hoping for a future big DLC solely focused on introducing a Fallout inspired/style doomed habitat.

kitano1947353d ago

listen to this cuck, already salivating at the idea of giving more money to the company that invented horse armor DLC

Othegamer5353d ago

hes gonna sell us skyrim again one way or another.

Mr Logic353d ago

Skyrim is in the far future. Fallout is way in the past.

sadraiden353d ago

Skyrim also takes place on a planet called Nirn, and Fallout takes place on a planet called Earth.

sadraiden353d ago

If Starfield actually had Nirn as a planet......welp, that's a day 1 purchase for me.

Christopher352d ago

That would be weird to only include Skyrim and not other parts of Tamriel.

Starfield is literally the most mindblowing game to date. It literally is what Mass effect series i dreamed of being.

The scale is absolutely insane. The environments they showed were just breathtaking. The gunplay was A1. The ship battles. Even able to board a enemies ship and fight in 0G.

The customization of the damn ships and the damn base you can build at anytime and stock them with your crew is unreal.

Xbox and Starfield are a match made in heaven.

darkrider353d ago

Nope, not really. Beteshda games sell much less on Microsoft machines.

This game isn't for casuals and that's the majority of Microsoft gamers.

The real question is would this game run at 60 frames on the ps5, we will never know. But in pc it will

KingKionic 353d ago

Semantics. PC is also XBOX.

Its a win win. When you typed that did you think that was some type of shot at Microsoft?

Lol.

Shadowsteal353d ago

@KingKionic

If PC was Xbox, Starfield wouldn't be locked to 30 fps.

NoFanBoy353d ago

MS only care about selling gamepass.

crazyCoconuts353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

@king If we're talking semantics, if PC is Xbox because XBox releases their games to PC as well, then is PC also PlayStation because Sony releases some of their games on PC? Is a Switch an XBox because Minecraft runs on it?
Not that I agree with dark rider, but I certainly don't view the PC as being XBox just because they release their games to PC and Microsoft makes Windows.

ChasterMies353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Xbox thrived because of hard core gamers. Halo, Morrowind, and Half-Life 2 made the original Xbox worth owning. Sure Xbox lost about half its playerbase last gen, but the roots are still there.

GhostTurtle353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

The only BGS game to ever sell less on a MS console was FO4 and 76. Dont know where you got your shit info but ok....

Even NV sold more on 360 than PS3

Hofstaderman353d ago

It’s Bethesda, I doubt it would have run 60fps on PS5.

Hofstaderman353d ago

@KingKonic if Phil continues with his shenanigans XBOX may very well be relegated to the PC platform. Stop white knighting incompetency and demand better.

badz149353d ago

"PC is also XBOX"

LOL

so MS only cares about xbox thus their "creative decision" to lock the game at 30fps only applies to the xbox but not PC, correct?

Sonic1881353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Mass Effect gameplay and enemy A.I. looks way better than what I saw in Starfield direct. And Mass effect is a older game 🤔

"This game isn't for casuals and that's the majority of Microsoft gamers."

No man sky wasn't for the casual either with its realistic approach but the game got better over time

"PC is also XBOX."

Say that to the Steam community

Christopher353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

***Starfield is literally the most mindblowing game to date.***

The hyperbole is mind-blowing around this game. I'm sure it will be solid for what it is, but it also seems pretty safe in many respects. The combat looks extremely safe and mundane. The character art looks typical for Bethesda (seen much better with Skyrim mods). The procedural stuff has been done before, we're just selling 'looks' here.

The game will be good. But, man, it doesn't look exciting nor is it doing anything that we haven't seen for a decade now. It's more or less doing a WoW, taking good ideas from others, putting it in one game, hope it all works well and people love it enough to stick with it.

KingKionic 353d ago

"taking good ideas from others, putting it in one game"

What is your point? All devs take ideas and create new stuff. This is something that is way bigger scope then anything ever done.

You can nitpick a ton of titles that have won GOTY, Best game etc the same way. They still would be mindblowing.

Lets cut it with the bullcrap.

Christopher353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

***This is something that is way bigger scope then anything ever done.***

My point is you are wrong about this. I mean, Dreams exists. Let alone a ton of worldbuilding MMOs and games.

***You can nitpick a ton of titles that have won GOTY, Best game etc the same way. They still would be mindblowing.***

What? I haven't seen a mind-blowing game since the last generation and even then maybe only 1 or 2. Mind-blowing doesn't happen annually. Perhaps you're just more easily won over or hyped for games, but nothing about it was mind-blowing.

Glad you're hyped for it, I guess? But, man, there is so much more they could do better in this that they just sat and did nothing with over the last two decades.

FinalFantasyFanatic353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

It looks cool, but I'm not getting sucked in just in case, the long development time, the ridiculously huge scope... As other posters have mentioned, it's a potential No Man's Sky if it doesn't deliver, or possibly worse.

I'm just keeping realistic expectations because I have doubts that they can deliver what they've promised or what people are expecting.

Pickledpepper352d ago

Take horizon zero dawn, OK game but all it is is a Rd person far cry 3 with robot dinosaurs.
Climb towers to open map
Hunt animals for weapon and pouch upgrades
Disable alarms when taking bases and so many fetch and kill request

crazyCoconuts353d ago

I'm getting some big time No Man's Sky deja Vu here

NoFanBoy353d ago

It's Fallout, No mans Sky and Outer Wilds It may end up being great but nothing really original or mindblowing.

BriBri353d ago

I'm sure this game is gone be great but I think your expectations might be too high

That’s how I felt playing No Man’s Sky. But Hello Games has like 16 people working on No Man’s Sky. What could they do with a couple hundred developers? Starfield gives me those vibes (almost too much). I’m trepidatious, though, because we haven’t seen how the ship flies and lands. Can we land anywhere and circle a planet on foot? Are enemy bases procedurally generated? Will missions be fleshed out like The Witcher 3 or repeatable fetch quests like Fallout 4? I’ll wait for first week impressions before jumping in. I might even wait until major bug fixes.

HICK353d ago

I think it looks good but help me see what you see... Because I just see a game that could of been named Fallout. It just seems like a Fallout game to me without VATS. I'm not saying that's bad, but I don't get the extreme excitement.

FGHFGHFGH351d ago (Edited 351d ago )

They moved the vats to the spaceship fighting. You can target specific parts of the ship

Days Gone Director Says Bend's Project Costs Over $250M; Says PS Co-CEO Doesn't Want 2 Zombies Games

Days Gone director claims Sony has already poured in at least a $250M in Bend's project; says Days Gone sold more than Death Stranding.

shinoff218318h ago

Well that sucks. Seems they want more online trash. I'd rather of had the sequel if it was single player

MrNinosan3h ago

What online trash games did PS Studios release last 10 years?

Notellin1h ago

The past has nothing to do with the future. This is such a terrible argument. Everyone knows about their current live service push.

_SilverHawk_27m ago

It's so tragic what happened to days gone. It is such an amazing game but bandwagoners trashed it and it underperformed in it's launch year. Days gone is the best open world zombie game released in the past five years. I was recently playing it on pc and I'm still amazed by it.

Games are very expensive to make and it seems like it's normal for a AAA game to cost over a quarter billion to make so if a quality game like days gone greatly underperforms then people shouldn't be upset when they see a lot of GAAS. I still remember a lot of bandwagoners calling days gone trash but years later it's now amazing when it's considered a failure by sony.

If a game isn't the best thing seen since hats with pockets then a lot of gamers who haven't played it automatically calls it rubbish and whoever made it should be incarcerated

-Foxtrot18h ago

It would be a shame if it was true that Hermen never gave the franchise a chance simply because he didn't like it and they already had a "Zombie" game with TLOU.

NaughtyDog are most likely moving onto a new IP next so it would have been the perfect time to do it.

ThinkThink10h ago

Here's where xbox steps in and releases state of decay 3 day and date on ps5.

Grilla3h ago

Days gone 2 was canceled before Herman was in charge. That happened like 4 years ago.

vfl5232h ago

4 years ago he was head of Playstation Studios. He would've probably had a hand in the cancelation.

Notellin1h ago

Man two seconds of research could have saved you from this comment. Amazing work Grilla you fit in with the uniformed N4G community who speaks before verifying anything that they say.

Redemption-6422m ago

Maybe encourage people to buy the game at full price and not when it's heavily discounted or go on plus. If this game had sold well when it was full priced a sequel would have been in the works. They made a single-player game that most people didn't support until they dropped the price.

excaliburps4h ago

Yep. Kind of weird since it wasn't a sales flop, no?

I know we have to take what Ross says with a grain of salt since we're hearing just one side of the story, but even so, the game wasn't bad at all. Heck, it's my brother's favorite last-gen game from what I recall.

The amount of zombies on screen, imagine that with the PS5 and SSD? That would be insanely fun!

Grilla3h ago

Most copies were sold on sale. Not enough ppl bought it at full price. I paid 20$ for it 6 -7 months after release.

Notellin1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Yeah we should never believe the creators side until we hear the corporate/big business side as history has shown we should always believe billion dollar corporations.

What a bootlicker statement.

P_Bomb3h ago

Well I don’t want 10 live service games, but they have no problem doing that lol. Ugh.

CrimsonWing693h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Oh great so we only get what the big wigs want… y’know, the people that really have their fingers on the pulse of what their consumers want. Faaaaantastic!

rippermcrip22m ago

Well consider they know the sales... they do know what the consumer wants.

It sold shit.
