Is turn based strategy games even that popular on consoles? Just curious.

MadLad301d ago

They've been slowly becoming popular now that devs have learned to map the complex controls better.

CoNn3rB301d ago

Xcom Enemy Unknown and 2 hit it big on consoles back in the day. There's a market for it

Some of the best games I've ever played

Sonic1881300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

Aren't the old FF, Xcom, Tales games, and persona 5 turn based? Some of the best games I've played is turned based. I can't speak on how BG3 will performed on PS5 but I can only tell you I'm having a blast with the PC version and I think Zelda might have some competition for GOTY

Baldur's Gate 3 is an isometric turn-based RPG, essentially made for PC gamers. Most people that want the game will get the PC version. This isn't a type of game that will attract many console gamers.

Console gamers prefer different type of games, doubt it will be a massive hit on consoles... Were the Divinity Original Sin series a massive hit on consoles?

anast301d ago

I'm getting it for the PS5, so there's at least one.

thorstein301d ago

Same. I only wanted it on console. I played the Divinity games on my PS4.

repsahj301d ago

I also getting the PS5 version.

jznrpg301d ago

Divinity sold well on PS. Baldurs Gate will also. Xbox has to wait until at least next year so who knows about Xbox and they don’t like buying games anyway so there’s that too.

anast301d ago

@Amazq

I enjoy a good back and forth, but you are going to need to bring better material next time.

anast301d ago

@jzn

It's more comfortable to play from the couch than from my desk.

pezking300d ago

weird, my 600+ title library on xbox begs to differ

MrNinosan300d ago

@pezking
Out of those 600+, lemme guess that 300 are GwG 250 are GamePass games, and 50 something are ganes you bought before GamePass became a thing?

The reason I guess, is because I have over 700 games in my Xbox Library, but haven't bought a game since Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

shinoff2183299d ago

Pezking , ms begs to differ. They told us this information. We're not pulling that out of are ass.

The Divinity titles did well on console. Hell, I own both Original Sin releases on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
Once devs figured out a proper way to map the controls to a controller everything was set. There's a reason even games like Planescape Torment are on console at this point.

anast300d ago

I own Divinity 2 ps4 physical copy. It's a great game. To think about it I have around 5 CRPGs on my console, Pillars of Eternity 1/2, Wasteland 3, Wrath of the Righteous, and Divinity 2. It's more comfortable to chill and play these games on the console. I do have Kingmaker on my PC though, because it's broken on consoles.

shinoff2183299d ago

I've been hoping that ms would get bethesada to release the original 2 fallout games on xbox so I could play with a controller. No luck yet but ya never know

LOGICWINS301d ago

Console gamer here. Planning to buy on the XSX.

NotoriousWhiz301d ago (Edited 301d ago )

I believe divinity did very well on the Switch as well, they should release Baldurs Gate 2 on the Switch successor if it's strong enough (which may be a huge if but we'll see)

slayernz300d ago

Wow what an out of touch comment....just cos you prefer to play on PC means the rest do as well????

I can't wait to play on PS5 in a few weeks

DuckOnQuack35300d ago

I've bought every turn based game that's come out on Xbox and ps

Othegamer5300d ago

ChasterMies300d ago

The loadout.com, one of the websites of all time, published this a year early.

PunksOnN4G301d ago (Edited 301d ago )

People seem to forget the Divinity games are on console AND SOLD VERY VERY WELL. Its going to sell alot on Ps5 next month idk about xbox....

Si-Fly301d ago

It hit 591K concurrent players yesterday, wouldn’t be surprised to see that broken again today as more people have finished downloading it. Considering the all time peak for DOS2 was 93K it’s very impressive and I’m thrilled for Larian!

With a game like Baldur's Gate 3, a number of factors make it successful—but perhaps none are as powerful as its side quest design.

Article makes a great point and I agree with it but is spoiler heavy. It should be marked. If you haven’t played through the game be warned as it even spoils parts of act 3.

Dirty_Lemons5d ago

Thanks for this dude, I am very interested in playing when I have time and am trying to avoid spoilers.

This game rocks, everything is quality, and I love the cutscenes, which remind me of Dragon Age Origin.

Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 Physical Deluxe Editions Delayed Due to Production Issues

While we were so hoping to not have to update owners of the console physical Deluxe Edition with any further news of delay, we’ve now run into more production issues which means that players who pre-ordered their PS5 North America copy that was expected to ship later this month, will now have to wait until July before they can get their hands on them.

shinoff21837d ago

Got that email like 2 weeks ago. Tbh I'm not tripping. I understand sht happens. I'm just glad they changed their minds on the physical release

Popsicle7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I with you. I got the email is well. Happy to eventually own a physical copy and glad it’s not digital only.

Baldurs Gate 3 was great, but I dont think it is as crazy as people make it out to be. I actually think Starfield is closer to being a crazy insane once in a lifetime game, but Im ready for the flak Im about to get.

AndrewM6d ago

If you think that then you either A never played Bg3 or B never watched anyone else play it, or C you don't know anything about the game, or D you played it and have no idea of the marvel it is in every single aspect of game design. It doesn't matter what game you compare it to, it doesn't hold a candle. Let alone starfield.

Armaggedon6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

A. Ive played it thrice
B. Played with others, so there are moments of watching
C. Know more than I would care to about the game
D.
Thats quite bold, seeing as there are an inumerable amount of games for it to contend with. I also know plenty of people with their own gripes with the game.

As someone that creates things, and has actively sought to gather intel and understanding, I would say Baldurs Gates very nature makes it so it would have a hard time sitting upon the lofty throne you have given it. Similar to a Bethesda game, it is a game with a very large number of permutations and variables to consider, despite being smaller in scale by direct comparison.

Exemplary mastery of design philosophy is more certain to appear in a game that is for confined. One of the reasons I see Starfield the way I do is simply Bethesedas approach of breaking the rules. Anyone should hopefully know that you just dont try to fit a Bethesda game into a space game, but they found a way to pull it off. Do to the nature of large scale open world games, whether it is efficient or not depends on the angle one is looking at.

Many people would tell me immediately that loading screens and empty planets prove that they failed to pull it off. If you play Starfield like a conventional game yes

Armaggedon6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Part 2:
Many people would tell me immediately that loading screens and empty planets prove that they failed to pull it off. If you play Starfield like a conventional game yes, it will seem disjointed and lazy; however, to those who realize what Bethesda were going for, you will see that the game is severely underestimated. The idea of God is hated and loved by many, and there is much controversy. Starfield is closer to that idea than people even notice.
