Baldur's Gate 3 takes the crown for 2023. Congratulations to Larian Studios.

-Foxtrot176d ago

Well deserved, they even got Players’ Voice aswell. I'm super happy for them.

I think the majority of the ones this year I agree with, only a couple I didn't.

RaidenBlack175d ago

The game reveals were amazing as well,
Exodus, Blade, First Berserker: Khazan, No Rest for the Wicked and Sega announcements were my highlights
also awesome was getting release dates for Wukong, Rise of Ronin, Hellblade II and Space Marine II
+ GoW free DLC and The Finals shadow drop = perfection

darthv72176d ago

And its now available on xbox store.

maniacmayhem176d ago

Yup, another great announcement for Xbox.

Yui_Suzumiya176d ago

Don't say anything nice about Xbox around here, lol. When will you learn? 😆

(I'm buying a Series S after Christmas, BTW. Just pointing out facts, lol)

Markdn176d ago

The fact that piece of rubbish forza won anything shows you how deluded the media is, and how much they believe Microshaft own publicity

Chris12176d ago

I'm not sure it's the media that's deluded.

Plague-Doctor27176d ago

The categories it won weren't super competitive and Forza at least excelled in its nominated areas

FinalFantasyFanatic176d ago

Honestly, they deserved to take the award, I'd be a let down if anyone else took it.

Turn arond in it's grave and cries again

frostypants175d ago

It still has some glitch issues, the inventory management is awful, and the romance system is almost self-parody sometimes...but the game is just SO good in spite of those things. One of the few games I've played in the last few years that only gets better as I go along (Act 3 is just wild). Reminds me of Witcher 3 in that respect.

Wow not a single Playstation game got an award.

Xbox killed it with 3 not surprising though this year belongs to Xbox, Nintendo and BG3.

stonecold3176d ago

tchia ff 16 last of us won awards

PrinceOfAnger176d ago

He is talking about games
Forza won 2 awards
Hi fi rush one award

Last of us got award a tv show?

tchia ff 16 " not sony games?

RedDevils176d ago

So what platform can you play FF16 again? Say it loud.

andy85176d ago

Is FF16 not a PS game now? 😂

Haki1112176d ago

it's square enix game sir Congrats on your TV Show award lmfaooo

andy85176d ago

He said no Playstation game got an award. It's a playstation game. It's coming to PC eventually. If you're using that logic, then his "Xbox killed it with 3 awards" doesn't count either because they're on PC.

Asplundh175d ago

Nope, the only thing binding the game to PS5 is timed exclusivety. It's Squares decision to release it on PC, they may also decide to release it on Xbox if they think it's financialy worth it.

Petebloodyonion176d ago

Honestly? Does it matter if Sony or Xbox games won awards?
Like does it change the quality of Spiderman 2?
I'm just finishing the remake of Dead Space and it got nominated for nothing so the game must suck right?

Crows90176d ago

Not it doesnt change anything but Sparky is making it seem like xbox took some kind of crown when we all know that they didnt. Spiderman 2 has a ridiculous amount of nominations and sony only released 1 major 1st party title.

Throughout all the nominations xbox 1st party was barely even a contender.

FinalFantasyFanatic176d ago

I didn't even take it into account, I was more excited to see who took what award.

gold_drake176d ago

actually two ps games got an award and last of us tv show.

Crows90176d ago

Xbox has never had any game nominated for gotyr....not sure they killed anything.

And whats with praising xbox for minor awards? Guess thats all they could do with such huge heavy hitters huh. Let me help you since you couldnt read

This year belongs to:
Game of the Year

Alan Wake 2
Baldur’s Gate 3
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Resident Evil 4
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Id add a few more but none of them are from xbox 1st party. Where is xbox in that list?

Chevalier176d ago

Wow. Again for the 10th straight year NOT a single Xbox 1st party game nominated for GOTY. Just absolutely embarrassing.!

outsider1624176d ago

Well playstation has been winning a lot the last 10 years. Time to give it a rest. What did xbox win in the last 10 years...i repeat10 freaking years...

ChasterMies175d ago

“this year belongs to Xbox, Nintendo and BG3.”

Sales say otherwise.

Snookies12176d ago (Edited 176d ago )

Absolutely no surprise that Baldur's Gate 3 won, haha. Kind of sad Ben Starr didn't get the voice acting award though for his performance in FF XVI. Though, considering I haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 yet. I can't exactly compare. I just know he killed it with his performance as Clive.

Plague-Doctor27176d ago (Edited 176d ago )

Astarion's VA really does do a great job in the game. There are a few characters I like the performance of more (Raphael for example) but they are more minor. The whole cast is strong and of the main characters he really probably is the best and most memorable performance

I did want to see Ben Starr win as well but it was a competitive year and I can see why they went with Neil

Ezio2048176d ago

Congratulations BG3 for the sweep with 6 wins

Also, so happy for AW2 for winning second highest awards for 3 wins including Best Direction.

Crows90176d ago (Edited 176d ago )

That makes me really excited when I get around to that game. His responses when up on the mic were the best.

Baldur's Gate 3's Side Quest Design is its Secret Weapon

With a game like Baldur's Gate 3, a number of factors make it successful—but perhaps none are as powerful as its side quest design.

Article makes a great point and I agree with it but is spoiler heavy. It should be marked. If you haven’t played through the game be warned as it even spoils parts of act 3.

Dirty_Lemons5d ago

Thanks for this dude, I am very interested in playing when I have time and am trying to avoid spoilers.

This game rocks, everything is quality, and I love the cutscenes, which remind me of Dragon Age Origin.

Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 Physical Deluxe Editions Delayed Due to Production Issues

While we were so hoping to not have to update owners of the console physical Deluxe Edition with any further news of delay, we’ve now run into more production issues which means that players who pre-ordered their PS5 North America copy that was expected to ship later this month, will now have to wait until July before they can get their hands on them.

shinoff21837d ago

Got that email like 2 weeks ago. Tbh I'm not tripping. I understand sht happens. I'm just glad they changed their minds on the physical release

Popsicle7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I with you. I got the email is well. Happy to eventually own a physical copy and glad it’s not digital only.

Baldurs Gate 3 was great, but I dont think it is as crazy as people make it out to be. I actually think Starfield is closer to being a crazy insane once in a lifetime game, but Im ready for the flak Im about to get.

AndrewM6d ago

If you think that then you either A never played Bg3 or B never watched anyone else play it, or C you don't know anything about the game, or D you played it and have no idea of the marvel it is in every single aspect of game design. It doesn't matter what game you compare it to, it doesn't hold a candle. Let alone starfield.

Armaggedon6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

A. Ive played it thrice
B. Played with others, so there are moments of watching
C. Know more than I would care to about the game
D.
Thats quite bold, seeing as there are an inumerable amount of games for it to contend with. I also know plenty of people with their own gripes with the game.

As someone that creates things, and has actively sought to gather intel and understanding, I would say Baldurs Gates very nature makes it so it would have a hard time sitting upon the lofty throne you have given it. Similar to a Bethesda game, it is a game with a very large number of permutations and variables to consider, despite being smaller in scale by direct comparison.

Exemplary mastery of design philosophy is more certain to appear in a game that is for confined. One of the reasons I see Starfield the way I do is simply Bethesedas approach of breaking the rules. Anyone should hopefully know that you just dont try to fit a Bethesda game into a space game, but they found a way to pull it off. Do to the nature of large scale open world games, whether it is efficient or not depends on the angle one is looking at.

Many people would tell me immediately that loading screens and empty planets prove that they failed to pull it off. If you play Starfield like a conventional game yes

Armaggedon6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Part 2:
Many people would tell me immediately that loading screens and empty planets prove that they failed to pull it off. If you play Starfield like a conventional game yes, it will seem disjointed and lazy; however, to those who realize what Bethesda were going for, you will see that the game is severely underestimated. The idea of God is hated and loved by many, and there is much controversy. Starfield is closer to that idea than people even notice.
