Stellar Blade Day One Update 1.002 Adds New Game+, Removes Offensive Graffiti

Shift Up has released Stellar Blade day one update 1.002 on PS5, and those who preloaded the game should be notified of this update.

cliveo3222d ago

Lol who is offended by it 1 percent of crying snowflakes of course..

blackblades22d ago

What did it mean? Considering I'm in my own world these days.

Christopher22d ago

Hard R is typically a reference to the N-word with the hard r at the end.

bloop21d ago

I've never heard this either, but the gist I'm getting is there's people now getting offended by a description of an offensive word. Bring on the giant meteor and end it all already.

Eonjay22d ago

Do you really not know this is about the n-word or are you saying that black people can't get offended because it upsets you?

blackblades22d ago

I'm black I didnt know what it was, didnt know what DEI was or baby ink whatever it is. As I said in my own lane I don't keep up with new shyt these days

jambola21d ago

I doubt it was even a black person who complained lol
it's usually people offended on other people's behalf, even if the "others don't care

preciousdeath21d ago

IGN/Kotaku "journalists" who posted articles within 20 minutes of each other. Manufactured controversy for clicks.

Christopher22d ago

I can't believe they're censoring this game on day 1. Games just aren't the same.

/s in case it's needed. I'm fine with them making these changes that they might not have known is culturally insensitive to some people in the big ole world. But that's just me.

VersusDMC22d ago

They are censoring something that is deemed offensive by Journalists quoting the offensive term verbatim. They are typing it intentionally in articles while in the game it's a wall texture saying Hard next to a unrelated 3d model sign that says R store. Is it offensive or not? Crazy town.

At least IGN just shows the term with a screenshot of the game. Because it's their "discovery" and to not show hypocrisy in their HUGE vitue signal.
Hard R is the not offensive way to describe an offensive term. Are they going to type "Ha$$ R" or not use the term now?

Christopher22d ago

Oh, hey, I agree with you that IGN and other journalists are dumb. Not disagreement there. But, I think for a game going out to millions of people across the world? It's not something they want associated with them. It's just horrific PR.

Tacoboto22d ago

Add to the horrific PR nightmare that this is the first major Korean-developed Sony-published title, if I'm not mistaken.

There aren't that many Korean developed titles in general. And the allowance of this only would drive a bigger fissure in east vs west especially after Final Fantasy XVI released featuring no black characters at all...

Not a good look for Sony regardless of how you personally feel about it or the people that talk about it.

VersusDMC22d ago

I'm not saying it shouldn't have been changed. It's an easy fix and looks like it was an easy fix.

But the word HARD being too close to the letter R being a horrific PR nightmare and a indication of a racist developer is beyond crazy.

Christopher22d ago

I only think they would be seen as an insensitive developer if they were informed of its implications and didn't remove it. I don't think it's a bad thing to not want to have an unintentional message in your game.

TriniOutsider22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

It's all fake outrage journalists are looking for everything and anything to accuse the developers of sexualization of the female body and racism now. Yet, Hard R has nothing to do with race.

Some of these journalists seem to dislike Asian people and it's starting to show more and more now.

TwoPicklesGood21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

And what does “Hard R” mean then? Do you know the devs and their intentions? You can assume they meant “harder” but you know what they say about assuming? 😜

VersusDMC21d ago

@Twopickles

Here is the term used for movies

https://insidethemagic.net/...

Google deadpool hard r for several articles using the term in the title. Probably used when talking about whether the new blade movie when wondering if it's an "hard r" and not PG.

You're also assuming.

shinoff218321d ago

Ign was one of the platforms trashing Japanese made games back during the ps3 360 Era around the time Phil phish showed his true colors.

ChasterMies21d ago

Cultural differences. If they knew sooner they would have pulled it sooner.

jambola21d ago

Korean developed game, released worldwide
censored because of a few offended americans

Christopher21d ago

If only we could all aim to be insensitive to others.

BlackOni21d ago

It's really not censorship. It's a change based on an unintended consequence. There's really no indication that it was something they even realized could be interpreted or construed as something else. Assets sometimes get placed in weird ways they don't realize until after. It's that simple.

Stevonidas22d ago

Pre-order cancelled. They were so close.... then they had to go and bend the knee.

Eonjay22d ago

If you can't enjoy the game without knowing there are racial slurs plastered on the walls, you might actually be the snowflake.

romulus2322d ago

There were no racial slurs plastered on the walls.

Tacoboto22d ago

"Hey why didn't you get that game? I heard it's got that hot Korean chick?"

"I was gonna, but then they removed a reference to the N word!"

TriniOutsider22d ago

There was no reference to the N-word.

gerbintosh21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I took "HardR" as "Harder". I think only racists and people looking for racism in everything will see a reference to a racial slur. Kind of like people looking at clouds see what they want to

SeTTriP22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

So this could be misconstrued as a offensive slur to a group of people they patched it out no harm no foul and now your not buying the game because this effected YOU in a negative way?
I'm confused.your offended because they didn't want to offend anyone says a lot about you more then the studio.

Huey_My_D_Long21d ago

This right here.

Honestly Kudos, because it seems like these type of people have been swarming N4G lately. I've lost my patience trying to explain but your post was succinct and on point.

shinoff218321d ago

Sounds like your the snowflake dog. That's what put you over. Sounds like you were triggered.

I'm offended by the sight of blood a d violence and find violence to be very insensitive...

We can all play stupid and pretend to be offended by graphics and fake worlds.

DFresh22d ago

I really enjoyed the demo.
I'm going to play through and max out on story mode then go to the challenge mode afterwards.
This game is very challenging but fun.
Especially for timing on the parrying and blocking.
Got the Deluxe Digital Edition (PS5) pre ordered.

I laughed my ass of at the score.

coolbeans7h ago

Yeah. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and read what they have to say, but it's suspicious in the face of other recent indies that've been praised.

Levii_9220h ago

I bet Edge is gonna give Breath of the Wild 3.0 a 10 again.

Tacoboto20h ago

Anyone else playing Stellar Blade and made it to the Great Desert?

I felt the story barely had us do anything here but there are a lot of side quests taking us back and the framerate is kind of all over the place. Curious if anyone else is noticing the same?

It's the only blemish so far in what's surprisingly become my current GOTY.

Levii_9220h ago

I don't see how can the framerate be all over place? It's litteraly one of the most stable games released, unless maybe you have it on Balanced mode, put it on Resolution or Framerate mode.

And yes the Great Desert is almost exclusively just a gorgeous big zone for side quests and fun.

Tacoboto20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Yeah that's what's surprising me - the rest of the game even on Balanced feels like a solid 60fps (and my display is 120hz VRR).

But even on Prioritize Performance it feels like it struggles in certain spots only in the Great Desert. The Buried Ruins section felt like the roughest area but another one was more into the desert near a statue with scaffolding wrapped around (and a dozen or so enemies including the tentacles).

All the side quests I had there are done now so I may only return now to fish again. But framerate aside I agree - it's one of the more beautiful gaming deserts and this game's side quests have been way more nice and varied than I thought they'd be.

Levii_9219h ago

I have to say i haven't explored the Great Desert 100% maybe just 40%, i plan on exploring everything there on NG+ so i don't know how Buried Ruins feel yet and also i'm running the game unpatched so maybe that's it i don't know but for me the Great Desert is perfect framerate wise if it's not on Balanced mode.

I absolutely agree man, the game is much more than i thought it would be in terms of content, exploration, collectables, secrets and side quests. Classic video game stuff! None of the modern BS. It's my GOTY as well so far.

VersusDMC19h ago

From what i remember the 2 open world hubs only have 1 story mission each. The gun missons. Most of the open world sections are for side missions, upgrades, cans, costumes, etc. Still fun to run around and discover some wierd puzzles there.

I feel like there are some fps dips but not all over the place.

And for people who don't do enough of the side missions...know that you will be locked out of a section of the game if you don't do enough. Fill that lily bar to 100%.

Elda15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

Stellar Blade a 6? That score is blasphemy. Score should be a 9, no lower than an 8. It's GOTY.

badz14912h ago

It's EDGE! The only games they are generously rating are Nintendo games.

Michiel198912h ago

so the 10 they gave to Last of Us, LBP and Bayonetta also were rigged? or only if you don't agree with it?

GhostMirror12h ago

Such a good game! I’ve put about 55 hours into it. I don’t regret buying a PS5 to play it.

buffig12h ago

Stellar Blade deserves more than 6 for the Raven boss fight alone!

robtion1h ago

Finished it 3 times and just got the platinum. Amazing game.
