New Xperia Play (PSPhone) specs and photos leaked

We have heard a rumored specifications of Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (or simply PSPhone) a long time ago, but now we got much more accurate technical data and some high quality pictures from chinese website IT168.

But the controls are the whole point. Most smartphones today can run some preety good looking games, but the controls usually suck for anything beyond casual games.

I was hoping Sony would've gone the iTouch/iPhone route where there would be a PSP2 and then a PSP2 that was also a phone. Would be cool. Oh well, here's to hoping the PSP2 at least has 3G capability so we can buy internet like the iPad where you buy it a few months at a time, instead of a contract. Then we could use Skype on the PSP2 and it would still pretty much be a phone.

Last year I remembered Nintendo toying around with 3G for 3DS. Well iit looks like that didn't happen for obvious reasons such as price and battery life.. No question about it that the next step in handheld gaming is having access to the internet where ever you go.. I would be surprised if Sony includes 3G/4G in PSP2 then wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo comes out with a new 3DS model that has 3G/4G capability.

Its a sony ericson smart phone which borrows things from the playstation brand but really has nothing to do with it itself.

The psp2 cant come soon enough, but I want original games and not ports over and over.

100% agreement, that Bert was talking about the Mobile World Congress. it's like the CES of Mobile computing, why display @ CES when the main conference for Mobile computing is next month..and would a PSP Phone be a big thing to show at that event in FEB?

I do not know why people thought CES would be where this phone would be shown? when right around the corner is a show that would be where to show it off @t..lol

the x10 is running 2.1 now and the playstation phone has been shown running 2.3 and in one instance 2.4

The PSPGo should of been the PSPhone.. I don't know, it seems this " Xperia" is comming to late in the market. And from gamers perspective, wouldn't they think Iphone's graphics are better than PSP1's graphics?

It will be even funny if PSP2 comes out later this year.

it's not late, and the Iphone 3 an 4 are better Hardware than the PSP an the DS combined...but this PSP Phone has just as powerful hardware as the
Iphone 4! an that is just this prototype we do not know what's the final build.

the fact that it contains a 1 GHz processor with a 205 Adrino GP embeded on the processor DIE has quite a punch. with 512 MB ROM and 512 MB of RAM. Its Quite powerful for A HandHeld..even the New Duel core Phones coming out are more powerful than these but if you can get great games on the PSP and DS already..than there should be no worries. these new Smartphones not only have quite the powerful hardware. there is going to be ones that come with dedicated gamer handheld controls on them.

the fact that playstation pocket..that is "Playstation" in it's word means that SCE has some vested interest's in making Software for it!

and since the hardware is a standard industry Smartphone hardware design , means developers will have no real trouble making games for the platform.

People cried on an on about the first years of the PS3 because it did not use "standard" hardware that developer's want to make games for it but was too hard..so you know what they are making a product that developers can make games for with standard industry wide Hardware.

the Tools are already out there..lets see what these developers can make for it!

remember easy platforms to code for are better right? this should get a bunch of 3rd party developer's on board right?

thank's, the problem is I think is many are overlooking the fact that the old guard of Sony has had to change due to the restructure..and that the Sony that was operating during the PS1 AN PS2 era has changed.

I mean Sir. Howard has changed quite a bit at sony an has been since 2007, You never hear about this in the New's you just hear the many times in the Media still trying to say that Sony needs to change this or change that but if you look at even before 2007 Sony offered so many industry wide standards that was not tied to Sony hardware in the PS3 you have to wonder.

Is people really paying attention or just chimeing the same ol same old just to keep getting hit's because it's negative in light to try to convince people that Sony is not changing with the times.

which if they have been paying attention you would see that is not true at all!

as a matter of fact Sony has been supportive of more open standards now than they were 6 years ago!

today they

are supporting Chipsets from intel and Arm
are supporting The Open standard OS of Googles Android
are supporting Companies IP's for streaming Entertainment like Vudu an Hulu while they are putting out their own content.

Making a PSN supported software for not only Android an Apple's Iphone but also i have no doubt Windows 7 will also be coming with that function now also.

ten years ago would have Sony been even open to this much content owned by another company on a playstation product?
