Great interview and great read! As usual from DF.
But I expected them do delve a little deeper on the disadvantages of the MegaTexture tech. This isn't a PR piece after all...

a few pieces of info that i know the N4G crowd will love/hate:

"Digital Foundry: There have been stories that the PS3 version has an 8GB install...

Tim Willits: Yes, that's absolutely true.

Digital Foundry: What are the elements that you require to install? Is it just that the Blu-ray drive isn't fast enough?

Tim Willits: Sony was great. Kudos to Sony for letting us do that. They don't allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level. What is nice about the PS3 platform is that it's just one platform. Everyone has one Blu-ray drive, one hard drive, it's all the same. Some of the other systems you have... should I install it on my 360? Should I not install it? So yes, it's very nice.

Digital Foundry: Did you settle on two or three discs in the end for 360?

Tim Willits: Three discs. We recommend installing the game to the hard drive, but you don't need to install all three discs. If you don't have the space available on your hard drive, don't stress. Install the first disc, the first chapter, the first half of the game, then when you're done, uninstall and install disc two."

Crap. Rage is 3 discs? Sigh, I have the 4gb Slim so im screwed. I am getting Dark Souls on my ps3 and Rage on my 360 so I can use each one equally. This is really a bummer. I have to now buy a hard drive or do disc swapping. Yes, I am lazy as fuck.

Just my opinion. Why spend more money just so you can use both machines equally? When you can save money buying both games for the PS3....

Well, i game a lot. Both of these games look great so i want to be able to spread the usage on both systems. I dont want to put all that wear n tear on my ps3. I already know im gonna play both for hours at a time n i dont want the ps3 being on for 14 hours straight. (i have buddies that come use it too) i want to be able to play ds for 6 hours on one then if i feel like rage play my 360 n let the ps3 rest lol. Both have no warranty n im poor

You know you can also use any 16GB USB drive for game installation, right?
If you only need it for rage, no point in buying an expensive MS hard drive

Problem is, im getting dark souls on the ps3. Its a must. So, that leaves rage for the 360. I cant afford a hard drive right now so disc swapping it is....

Game looks awesome & is pretty much a day one buy for me, it's a shame they decided to omitt proper online fps competative play though & it means instead of buying it at full price in Australia (where I live), I will import it from Playasia for half the price.

I mean previews have already stated that the vehicle based controls are pretty ordinary, so why would I want to play competative multiplayer on a game built as a fps first & foremost, with tacked on, make-up driving bits & pieces, obviously put in just to get us around a bigger game world as quicly as possible, & to also add a little variety to the mostly fps gameplay. I mean I have no qualms with ID adding this to the game, IF it was being added in as another online mode to more traditional fps fragfest gameplay. It really seems more dumb, than gutsy to overlook the popularity of fps fragging...they have a game with awesome graphics & production values, as well as the only other fps game locked in with 60fps frame rate, which makes it unrivalled for competative, multiplayer 1st person shooting, & with the COD series being the only other console fps with that advantage, it means RAGE could have been a worthy rival to COD's multiplayer crown. It would have had to have been the one COD was going up against, as opposed to BF3.

Even though I'm getting the game for it's wicked graphics, art direction & mainly gameplay & awesome setting & seemingly story, I am bitterly dissapointed that my only option for 60fps online shooting fun will have to be (the ever staling) COD:MW3.......and I will play through Rage's campaign & have a ball I assume & hope, only to try the car based crap, only to turn it off in disgust of it's mediocricy, only to put on Twisted Metal for true car combat carnage.
