That is indeed the case for some game, but for the vast majority that isn't true and they work perfectly fine without DRM or anything like that. There is actually a convenient website that you can use to check this: https://www.doesitplay.org/ You can search for the game title and it will show you if it'll work without internet and/or a download. You can see that only 3% of the games they tested don't work without internet...

People should vote with their wallet and support physical games while they still can.

That what I'll do. If there's no physical version I'll just skip it, plenty of other games to buy.

Disappointing that it's digital only. I understand that many will just play it through Gamepass but it would've been nice to have the choice.

"PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by nearly 20,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 411,000 units."

Damn...

If it was just a key for the digital version you would need internet to play it. You don't because everything is on the disc.

False. You can check it here: https://www.doesitplay.org/...

Or you can wait a few months and pick up those games from the bargain bin.

"Whatever the future of games looks like, content will always be king. But it’s going to be a lot harder to get good content if subscription becomes the dominant model and a select group gets to decide what goes to market and what not. Direct from developer to players is the way."

Very true.

Yeah, noticed that too. Pretty crazy.

"This is mostly due to the PS5, which saw a 177% increase in sales year-on-year. PS5 suffered severe stock issues during 2022.

PS5 was far and away the biggest console of the year. Nintendo Switch holds the No.2 spot, with sales dipping nearly 10% over the year before.

In third place is Xbox Series S and X, which saw sales drop nearly 18% over the year before."

PS5: up 66% year-on-year
Switch: down 7% year-on-year
Xbox Series X/S: down 19% year-on-year

Enough people to warrant a print, according to LRG themselves: "...we only sell those kinds of numbers on PlayStation and Switch"

Yeah, almost too many. Especially in the first 2 months.

Since the headline isn't very clear:

"Sony’s PlayStation 5 is selling pretty dang well in Japan, according to new data that shows it was the second best-selling console in the country last year, behind only Nintendo’s Switch. Even more impressive, the PS5 sold better than any PlayStation console has ever sold since the PS2 in 2004. That’s also an indication of just how much easier it is to find the machine in 2023 compared to past years."

Sounds good, I'm keeping a close eye on this game.

"PS5 was the driver behind this. Sony's console saw sales rise 55.2% over 2022, making it the biggest year yet for new PlayStation. It's actually the best year for a PlayStation machine since 2014."

I would say physical so you can take advantage of both the digital and physical deals. Sometimes a store will have an offer for a physical version that is much cheaper than what it costs in the digital store. Probably worth the investment of a physical drive.
